Letter of Recommendation from Congressman

interested in majoring in Business most likely and going onto law school to become an entertainment lawyer

any suggestions..?

I'll start with Villanova, Boston College, University of Santa Clara.

Villanova or Boston College seem like great choices. I think they would be matches

do i have a chance at georgetown or any ivies or top tier... what about nyu

I think you should definitely apply to Georgetown, NYU, and some of the Ivies, like Cornell, Dartmouth, and Penn. I would also recommend UVA, UC Berkeley, and Michigan. These schools are all excellent for business.

Your SATs need to be in the high/mid 1400s to 1500s for the Ivies. Especially for Penn. They reject gods at Wharton.

Stern might give you a bit of slack. And NYU CAS would probably take you.

UVA and Berkeley out of state are killers for anyone. And the ivies are reaches.

You can still apply to Penn for the hell of it. But don't expect to get into Gtown, NYU-Stern, UVA, Berkelely, and Penn. Because it isn't going to happen.

I think "isn't going to happen" is a little harsh. Competitive as those schools are, numbers aren't all that's important, the OP has strong EC's, and who knows how high that SAT score could turn out to be? Sure, getting in won't be easy -- but that's why they're reaches, right?

well, what if i got into nyu and then transfered to stern from within?

thanks 1a1ncx, lol it was quite harsh

i don't necessarily have to apply as a business major to the business school, i can always attempt to transfer while in the school, a lot of people do it

You CAN'T transfer into Stern from within NYU. You can't even major in, I don't think.

What I meant was that there's no way you'll get into ALL of them, so you need to adjust your list. Especially because B-school admissions are especially competitive.

yea id say you have a chance at some of those schools like cornell and dartmouth- so id say apply- otherwise i think michigan is a good choice as well as BC

thanks guys, all of you have been a really big help and have also made me feel a little more confident about applying for colleges in the fall...
any one else?

o by the way...thanks for clarifying that ses, i thought i had a chance at at least a few of those schools, you can never expect to get in across the board though...

but another question, when you are discussing the ivies we know that they are really becoming "reaches" for everyone, so isn't it also true that if you impress that one person through and interview or that one admissions person through an essay....isn't that kinda all it takes (if you have at least legit scores and grades and ec's)

Depends on your admissions rep (the person who initially reads your app). And how many of the other kids in the pool impressed a person as well. But I'd think for most it's more cohesive.

i guess so...anyone else have anything to say?

people are kind of being harsh here, maybe it's good not to get your hopes up too high, but i'd say you have a shot at any school ranked in usnews between 20-5, and also at georgetown, berkeley, and uva. I would call BC a low match/high safety for you. Villanova is a safety, as is NYU CAS.

you should consider also majoring in econ, this opens up more top schools that don't have business programs (econ from a top school can be BETTER than a business degree)

these schools would include uchicago and northwestern, an econ degree from either would probably be better than a business degree from almost anywhere except wharton or MIT

i do want to become an entertainment lawyer, so does that change where i should apply?

econ over business??

are my ec's helping my chances?

Indiana would be a good safety.

your numbers are right near mine. i applied at cornell, c.mellon, and colgate, and ended up accepted at colgate =D

what are my chances at stern?
