Which dorms for someone in math and ROTC

Ya-hoo, just got my acceptance letter today for LAS in Math. Which dorms would be the best for someone in math and in ROTC? Which are the best overall? Which have the best locations? The best sized rooms?

The best dorm is ISR because it's 2 blocks away from the math building as well as the rest of the quad, but it's mostly upperclassmen there since it's hard for freshmen to get in (read: no parties). A lot of freshmen will get placed in PAR/FAR (and it's called FAR for a reason...) or the Six Pack (where the parties are). All the rooms are about the same size: 130 sq. ft. doubles, so not much difference there. Make sure to pick a dorm with AC if that's important to you, but it's pretty expensive ($100/month = $900/year) for something that you'll use 2 months of the year.

hey, Im_Blue.. I'd like to ask you a few questions about the math/engineering program at UIUC. If you could email me, I'd appreciate it. The address should be in my profile..

Air conditioned dorms don't cost an extra $100 a month but instead an extra $100 per year. ISR is occupied heavily by upper class students in engineering and I personally believe it is among the worst of the dorms (heating/air units are ancient, smelly and noisy). There is no particular dorm that anyone can say, "Wow, this is the place I really want to stay." Worst located are FAR and PAR, both furthest from the main academic quad of all dorms. There is no particular dorm that is going to be better or worse just because you are majoring in math or are ROTC. Many freshman try for the six-pack on the west side of campus (six dorms together between Gregory and Peabody Streets -- can't remember them all off-hand but Hopkins and Gregory are among them) and then many of those end up in FAR or PAR because they don't get their first choice.

ROTC is at Armory I believe. The closest dorms to that are Taft/Van Doren. Next would be the six pack. I'd go with Gregory (half of the sixpack + Barton-Lundgren) and Peabody(other half of 6pack +Taft-Van Doren) in your dorms application (I dont believe you get to choose the exact dormitory). Hope this helps.

What kind of envelope do the acceptance letters come in. Are they big ones or smaller ones. I sure hope i get accepted.

They come in a big envelope.

Omniscient,
The letters come in a large blue envelope that says something like "Get Ready 2005."
Good luck!

My twin brother and I currently have a lease for the new CPM building on 512 S. third st. (the luxury apartments). We have a four bedroom place for the two of us so far because two of our friends bailed out at the last second. We are looking for 2 roommates but one would even do. The years rent is around $6,000. I know it seems like alot but this place is totally worth it. It has never been lived in and has two floors, three full bathrooms, four bedrooms, granite counter tops, a huge living room, a view of the park, a washer dryer, and it is close to the campus. This place is nothing but luxurious. We have bought a brand new couch and a 52'' plasma tv for next year thanks to our older brother who got drafted to the NY Rangers. My brother and I our nice and easy to get along with, so if you need a place Email me at mmontoy2@uiuc.edu to get more info.
Thanks
