Which housing option?

I have just committed to Berkeley a while ago.
However, I'm clueless about which housing option I want.

The options are:

Clark Kerr Campus
Foothill
Bowles
Stern
Unit 1
Unit 2
Unit 3

My main concerns would be the

Room types - I do know that single room chances are low (they are, right?) I hope to get more personal space to at least have work done in my dorm room. I'd like bigger rooms, and possibly bathrooms that arent public?

Atmosphere - I'd like it to be more social; I like having people around.

Distance - I won't want to spend too much time on my way to class. FYI, I will be in a student in college of letters and science.

Please let me know what would fit me. And any sharing of experience and knowledge of these housing options would be great.

really? you’re clueless? hello clueless : ]

Private RENT all the way.

Hit up Craigslist.

You will realize by your second year at the latest that university housing is an outrageous rip-off here.

From what I’ve heard…

  • []Clark Kerr: I hear they have the nicest dorms, and that it’s where the athletes live, but it’s expensive.
[]Foothill: Closer to all the science/engineering buildings; suite-style, so you don’t have floor bathrooms, but it’s much less social than the units (both because it’s suite-style and because it’s away from main campus)
[]Bowles & Stern: The single-gender dorms, so you really can only choose one of the two…o_O
[]Units: All identical (pretty much), so there’s really no difference between 1, 2, 3, other than perhaps the theme housing. Definitely more social, but you share bathrooms with your floor.

It doesn’t seem like there’s anything that really fits you, so you’ll have to make some compromises. And while you can definitely move off-campus (it seems like a lot do, particularly after freshman year), I had some relatives/Cal alumni tell me that the nearby apartments are “run by slumlords who don’t take care of the apartments.”
