Who got into Davis with a 3.5 UC GPA?

Hey guys…the title says it all…i just want to have an general idea.
Also any other UC’s?

UCD admission is not just GPA (although heavily weighted). Test scores, EC’s and essays will play a part in the admission process. Here is a link to the 2013 common data set for UCD (2014 not available) and the GPA ranges listed are based on the unweighted GPA (not UC) but it should give you a general idea. The range of 3.25-3.49 shows only 1.92% admitted. Majority of admitted students had a 3.75+ unweighted GPA (88.79%), so using the 3.5 UC GPA as a guide, I would say a very slim chance of acceptance unless applicant is a recruited athlete or has some other exceptional talents.

Just google the other UC’s common dataset if interested.

what is the difference between early decision and early action?

ED is binding meaning you cannot get out of the decision unless you can prove financial or medical hardship.
EA is not binding. See link above for a complete answer.

According to my school’s Naviance (in-state public), 1 out of 446 applicants got into Davis with about a 3.5ish uncapped UC GPA (also the lowest GPA of all who were admitted). For UC Irvine, 2 out of 401 were admitted (they also had the lowest GPA’s). 4-5 people out of 658 applicants were admitted to UCSB with an uncapped UC GPA of 3.5 or lower.

I think you’d better look to Merced, Riverside, and Santa Cruz with such a GPA.

But gpa is not the deciding factor right

GPA is not the only deciding factor, but considered extremely important along with test scores, essays and HS course rigor.

Heh heh, I applied with a 3.14 UC GPA (Personal problems in soph and junior year caused my grades to tank, straight A student otherwise)…Gonna be interesting that’s for sure. Good luck. We all got a shot.

svFalcons- if u don’t mind me asking …did you get in?

also is it possible to get scholarship money for UC’s or others schools with an SAT score of 2250+

Usually the only scholarship money available from the UC’s is the Regents scholarship. You need to be in the top 1% of applicants and is very competitive.
Here is more information : http://admissions.ucdavis.edu/cost/regents_scholarship.cfm

As already stated, GPA isn’t a deciding factor, no. There is a whole slew of things that UCs consider when it comes to admissions:

I would focus on writing a spectacular essay and getting high standardized testing scores, although even that wouldn’t guarantee a spot in one of the mid-high tier UCs nowadays. You probably would have a decent shot at UCM, UCR or even UCSC; try looking up those schools and see if they’re right for you.

I’m too lazy to calculate my UCGPA, but I got in with like a 3.3 UW and 4.2W. I’m hispanic got 1990 SAT and poor so that’s probably why

If OP is still curious, I am an incoming freshman with an UW GPA of 3.3 and 3.7W. I was waitlisted after being sent a supplemental questionnaire in January before finally being accepted in May.

As other posters stated, GPA is not the only deciding factor of admission into UCD, but it’s still a significant portion of your application.

I believe I was accepted because of my essay, to be honest. Because of my lower GPA and lack of advanced classes, I was a very “borderline” student.

If possible, don’t settle on a lower GPA range. All the UC’s are receiving more and more applicants every year and the competition is intense - even with campuses like UC Irvine and UC Davis.

Hey guys, I am going to be a senior. So I have a 3.1 GPA unweighted and a 3.6 weighted GPA. I have a 2100 SAT. I got a 5 in the AP test for Calc and a 4 in APUSH. Also I got a 790 on SAT Math Level 2. I have some really good extra curriculars. For example, I am doing an internship at a startup. On top of that I am working on a huge web application for the past 1 year. Also I coached basketball to younger children. And finally I won a hackathon during my junior year summer. (there are a couple of things missing). So essentially I want to major in Computer Science (a booming field).

I really want to go to UC Davis. I fell in love with the campus. I know over the past couple of years, getting into UC Davis has been getting hard. I was just wondering if I have a chance to get in.

Thanks!

@roer345 Your GPA is pretty low, especially for a heavily impacted major such as CS.

However, since your SAT does make up for it and you do seem to have a strong interest/passion into the major you wish to get into, I would say you have a decent shot IF you wrote a stellar personal statement that Incorperates the information you provided above.
