Who has committed?

Kreativekat + Cheer - welcome to the family - you too Skiermom!!! We will have to wear tee shirts w/our CC names on them so we can recognize each other! Can’t wait…

DD committed right after acceptance in December and is all signed up for classes. We returned to NOLA Spring Break and she enjoyed showing her big brother around campus. Our whole family is so excited! DD and I will return to campus weekend of April 13th - my car is practically on autopilot  I have loved observing mostly silently on CC for past 6 months and have learned soooo much about Tulane and college app process. Wish I would have come across this during my DS college app process-but probably wouldnt have been the same without fallenchemist, haha, Tulane family is so fortunate to have such an enthusiastic, knowledgable advocate! Definitely want a FC FC shirt so I can recognize everyone

Campus is always beautiful, but this time of year is especially so, with the fruit and blossoms on the trees and the shrubs also in bloom, as well as the pleasant temps and humidity still. My D had a friend down during spring break that went to school at an urban Boston university, and she was so impressed with the campus, the homes along St. Charles, and the general aura that is NOLA, including the French Quarter that isn’t Bourbon Street.

Congrats again to your D, RDmomma. The excitement that exists between the time of making the decision to attend and actually starting in August is pretty unique. It is nice you and she are able to visit a few times in between, it really helps to make the waiting more tolerable.

Decision made over the weekend!! We’re all really excited.
We had a great visit 2 weeks ago for Destination Tulane and it sealed the deal.
Now on to planning for Orientation and Move in!

DS committed in December, as fast as was humanly possible. He would have started in January if his high school and Tulane would have allowed it! We are all incredibly happy and grateful that he was admitted, especially given the huge number of applicants and their amazing stats. Looking forward to meeting the CC crew during move in. Hope everyone has a wonderful and stress-free finish to senior year.

Just committed D13. In the end, it was not contest between TU and the other schools. She even went online and ordered a sweatshirt–something she ordinarily wouldn’t do. Hopefully she’ll get a good dorm assignment. Heading down in early June for orientation and will get to work on move-in and parents weekend (and Thanksgiving!) travel arrangements.

That’s great, nyermom! Wait, D13???

Also, I have a question that is pure curiosity. Looking at your other posts I see American was in the mix pretty high. What made her choose Tulane over American, do you think? They don’t compete for students as much as some other schools like Miami, but they certainly do compete some.

I was the one urging her to look at American again, but she just didn’t love it the first time around. Since she does have (occasional) concerns about being far from home, I thought it could fix that issue. She does LOVE NOLA and the character of a city is important to her.

D13 = Daughter (high school class of '13). I guess that’s used on other threads than accepted student threads and I just use it automatically. When I first started seeing it, I thought “what? You’re thinking about college for a middle-schooler??”

Thanks for all your help FC. From reading these boards thoroughly, I know that you’re a great (unofficial) rep for TU!

Ah, OK. Often people use D1 and D2, etc. to designate the oldest, second oldest, etc. So you can see why I did a double take on D13!!

Yeah, homesickness is totally normal, but usually dissipates after the first 6-8 weeks. In some of the more severe cases, they just have to be told to give it time, and there are people at Tulane to talk to as well. Tulane is especially used to this because of the high percentage of students from >500 miles, and the administration has taken steps to help students deal with it. That is one reason the retention rate has increased from the mid-80% range to about 91%. Getting involved in clubs and other activities early helps a ton, naturally.

Happy to help, I always enjoy seeing the positive results and very positive feelings most people have about now. Even those that got wait listed or denied usually have excellent options they are excited about, so it isn’t just about those attending Tulane. Although naturally that is especially great to see.

I have now made hotel (hampton inn) and air reservations for orientation, hotel (hampton inn) and car (Dollar car rental was cheapest) reservations for move in (need to look into air) and hotel (Roosevelt) reservations for parents weekend. FYI, the Roosevelt was $100 cheaper per night after applying the Tulane rate.
I have now discovered a new career path…Travel Agent!

DS committed last Thursday!!! We are all booked for Orientation 6/13 & 6/14. Is anyone else going during those dates?

Hmm… how soon should I change my name to TulaneMama? :-)

Anytime you want! Congratulations.

I think I’ll wait until Exeter Graduation, fallenchemist. :-)

Congrats Exeter!

Thanks Vitrac!

Exeter - My son + husband will be there the 13th + 14th too!!! Where are you guys from??

Hi Bloomy! We are from Maine. This will be our third visit to Tulane. 6/2012, 3/2013 and now 6/2013!

It will be my son’s third visit as well…wow - you are traveling further than us - from nj.

Yep. No direct flights from Portland, Maine. Though our June flights are 1/3 of the price of our March flights, so that’s a plus!

Haven’t booked for move-in yet but I plan on being there 8/23 - 8/26.

I don’t think I’ll be able to make it down for Family Weekend, that would make 4 trips in one year. Our budget will surely be dried up by then. :-(

Hi, we are headed there this week, question, any feedback on what too expect during Destination Tulane day ?

Do they isolate the kids from the parents during the day (hope so) ?

thanks for the feedback.
