Whole Candidate Score points

Hello,

When the USAFA determines a persons candidate score, do they take into account background? For example, will they add some points if you know a foreign language (not like High School Spanish and French…well, I’m pretty good at those too, but that’s besides the point :P). Or if you’re from a first generation family. Things like that. Are points added for that?

And on a completely different note, would the fact that I attended the USAFA summer seminar help me when applying for a nomination? Would it give me an edge up on the competition you think?

Thanks! And good luck to all the other applicants for the Class of 2016!

pima can give info on the candidate score, but I’m fairly certain it’s a combination of your grades, test scores, accounting for the rigor of your school (% that go on to a 4 year), your athletic performance, and community involvement. I’m almost sure they don’t take into account proficiency in a language other than English, but I’m not sure about the first generation family.

The language thing will help you later if you want to minor…you can skip the basic classes.

Summer seminar is great for you to get a feel for the Academy, but it won’t really make a difference when it comes to getting in. The only exception I can see to that is if you and another candidate have the exact same score and you did SS and they didn’t. Then it would give you the edge.

The PAR will not recognize a language that is not on the official transcript. PAR is 60% and is comprised of:
~SAT/ACT
~GPA
~Class rank
~ Course rigor
~ School profile

It is the portion that you send “sealed” from the school.

Now with that fact you also need to realize that this could fall into your EC and honestly every point matters.

The AFA wants the best WHOLE candidate. You can be the valedictorian with a 4.0 uwgpa & 15 APs , score 2400, but lose out the appointment to the candidate that has a 3.8 gpa, 9 AP, and 2100 SAT. Why? Because they were in NHS, FBLA and LAX for 4 yrs. PLUS, they maxed the CFA.

It is truly about the WHOLE candidate.

hmmm, okay then. Well that helped in clarification I suppose.
