HiMom and Mommusic: Thanks for your insights, tho I guess we just wait and see if any interesting offers emerge. My husband owns his own small co (not a NM participant) and I'm not working so corporate scholarship is not relevant. Then, most of her schools are nonparticipants (ivies and selective G'town). She listed Tufts as first choice but should she change to undecided in case someone else (American?) offers something more generous? Will UVA care at all?

What are some other schools that get very excited (to extent of offering significant grants) over NMF and is it possible to throw out an application past deadlines to any of these? Guess we've learned a thing or two for child #2...Thanks again for you guidance.

Some schools actively recruit NMFs--there are some threads about it like good merit aid or something. Like I wrote, my friend's son was offered substantial NMF scholarships at 3 OOS colleges he hadn't applied to, UTexas among them. The schools you mention weren't among them. You'd have to check with each school to see what's available at this point--some school merit aid deadlines haven't yet passed.
She has nothing to lose by contacting the schools she's interested in via letter & updating them about her NMF award & anything else since her ap.
Good luck--we don't qualify for corporate scholarship either (hubby is fed employee & I'm part-time state).

HIMom- I'm a federal employee, too. Just wondered if you know about the FEEA scholarship for children of federal employees. The application deadline is next month.

Brian,
The awesome thing is working at a job I love, which happens to be for the state of HI. Thanks!

Hi Pat! Thanks for the site--we've printed it & will have son fill it out by 3/31 since it doesn't say need is required (many other ones do -- including the ones for Eagle Scouts). Awards are regional, as I recall & I think there's one+ awarded for area region.
