Who's going to take the AMC 10/12 in Feb 2009?

Yeah, different test date. And different test questions, I believe.

Do well enough on the USAMO and off you are to the IMO.

An IMO gold medal could probably get you into any college of your choice.

haha that made me laugh lol, you could probably get into your first choice college with good grades, sats, and usamo (w/ decent amc and aime)...there was only one student in the ENTIRE nation last year that had an imo medal before applying to colleges...

An IMO gold means the person is probably good enough in school and has done enough other things to not need the IMO Gold medal. That, and they'll probably succeed wherever they end up so it doesn't really matter.

Yeah I'd say USAMO is enough of a hook (even at top schools), I've rarely seen kids rejected with USAMO provided they had the stats/other solid stuff, and weren't complete retards/anti-social noobs with a crappy personality (such as bs'ing their college essay).

^....wait....aren't those characteristics prerequisites for usamo? jkjk
lol there are enough "baller" usamo qualifiers

some guy qualified for USAMO in my school his sophomore year and went to carnegie mellon

...now why would you do that?

Is there a link someone to a sample problem or sample problems for these competitions? Living in a rural area, I've never had the opportunity to do them, but I'd be interested to see what kinds of questions they ask and how difficult they are.

I know it was taken yesterday, as well; congratulations to everyone who took it and did well.

gah i wanna get into USAMO but need an 11 on AIME.. :[ should i bother ordering volume I AoPS ?

^order it, regardless of whether you make USAMO or not, it's a great book and will help solidify your basic problem solving abilities

The following link will direct you to last year's AMC 10B contest:
2008 AMC 10B - AoPSWiki

oops I meant Volume II. I already have Volume I. is it too late to register for AMC 12B ?

^ It might be. I think registration was due late January. Check the website though.

Again, be realistic here. If you're not scoring high on the AMC (i.e. more than just barely qualifying for AIME), you're not going to score high (i.e. 11) on the AIME.

What's the AMC?

I didn't read AoPS 1, and everyone is saying AoPS 2 is good for AIME, are u supposed to read the first and then go onto the 2nd, or would i be fine just buying the 2nd one?

^It really depends on your mathematical proficiency....

Just curious as to how people know their scores already. I'm pretty confident that I got a 100.5 on the 12A (all I was trying for), but I would love to know for sure.

150 *****es. 10 on AIME last year. F UCKin see ya AT USAMO pussies

You guys really have to get a life, please stop defacing HSL.
