Who's In?

Miami underenrolled by 300 students last year. This means they will be admitting a bunch more students this year to fill that financial hole...

The dorms are very nice as dorms go. As a freshman, your room will probably be around 100 square feet. If you bunk your beds, you'll have plenty of extra room. My roommate and I don't bunk, and it's not bad at all. You can play around with your room arrangement on the first day. The MET quad (Morris, Emerson, Tappan) has air conditioning, and I'm sure other quads do as well. Emerson and Tappan are the first-year honors dorms for next year. The freshmen dorms are pretty basic, but I wouldn't consider any of the dorms "bad." I think the largest rooms are in the dorms in Western. My room next year is about 160 square feet with a hardwood floor-- it's an upperclass honors dorm.

I received my acceptance on Jan 30! I'm not sure if I'll attend, but I really like Miami a lot.

I won't have a car and I am wondering if the campus is too big for me to be able to walk everywhere? I haven't been to campus to visit yet (I have to wait until I've received some other acceptances since it's far away)-- I certainly don't mind walking, but is a car a must-have on campus? Thanks!

cat076-
Did not have a car any of my four years there. Senior year, roommate had a car that stayed parked almost all the time. When I visit I even find having a car an actual pain, so I seek to park and walk as soon as I arrive. So, in my opinion, no car is no problem. Also, I believ there is now some sort of free public transportation that we never had back in the dark ages, current students want to comment???

Ahhhh, Tappan, my freshman "residence hall"[LOL to current students:)]. It was all female then and we had a cheer: T-a-p, P-a-n, Tappan, Tappan, we like MEN!!! Bahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!

i think i will be able to make the open house in april. Anything i should make sure i check out well on campus or off.

Eat in a dinning hall, get chilli at Skyline uptown, get a toasted roll in the Shriver Center, see a lecture/seminar/play, watch an intramural sporting event or a varsity one, try out the rec center, go to the formal gardens, go to Hueston Woods State Park, strike up conversations with students you see on campus, checkout the football stadium, sit in on a class in your intended major, wander through Western campus, see the McGuffy museum, wander through the art museum, hike on the nature trails and bluffs in the park behind the Alumni Center[southern edge of campus], pause to listen to the Beta Bells, take advantage of everything they offer at the open house. Did I forget anything???

The Miami Metro can take you around campus and some places off-campus. I've only used it once, when I was going from Tappan (MY current residence hall, LOL) to Millett. From where I live, I can around to almost every building on campus in 15 minutes or less. I'm not planning on bringing a car on campus until my senior year so I can drive to and from interviews.

Go to Bagel and Deli uptown! Talk to all of the people at the open house; they're there to answer your questions. Get handouts, even if you don't think they'll apply to you. Try to see a student's room. Sometimes there will be room visits arranged. Take a tour of campus.

I'm in at school and honors program. Deciding between Miami and Case western. My decision will probably be largelly financially based.

any idea where i can see interior pictures of some of the buildings and dorms. On the website all they show for dorms are the building itself

Nascar-
Do not but the interior picture on the front page of the residence hall section of the webpage is from probably Tappan, Emerson or Morris halls as it has the daybed scenario. That is, enter the room through a small entry-way of about 3-4 feet long that is formed by the closets on each side of it that face the window, on each side of the room in front of the closets are dressers then daybeds with storage units above them that form the "back" or "pillows" of the daybeds when they are couches, then a desk with shelves to the ceiling and then windows. Those three residence halls are also airconditioned. Some of the North Quad residence halls are strictly two-bedroom suites each with their own private bathrooms, those suites have bunkbeds and you have three suite-mates besides yourself. Some of the older residence halls in central quad have pretty large rooms with beds that can be bunked or twined and still givve plenty of room.

Funny aside, my freshman year, a wealthy socialite from Cinci had her room done by an interior decorator(or her parents did I guess)-replaced the desk chairs with wicker fan back chairs, put in wall-to-wall carpet, designer sheets and drapes and fancy artwork. It was pretty nice... I've always thought the rooms were pretty generous in size and beat most of my friends' rooms at other colleges.

Just a warning: if you visit you will fall in love

beautiful

Check out the rec center, new hockey arena, and drawings for business school (2008)

I got in back in maybe January? I forget when I got my letter, and then I finally received my acceptance into architecture in February, and then became torn between MU and the College of Wooster. In the end, I picked MU for the architecture department and faculty. I will be on the Western Campus (with bigger rooms, I hear) instead of the Honors dorms (which I heard had AC) so that I can be with the people in my major, going through the same crises (is that the plural of crisis? gosh and I think I'm going to college, lol) I have a junior year friend who just visited and is already in love with MU, so yea, visiting has that effect on people!
Stats:
SAT: 1430 (740 V 690 M...that new thing...something in the 600 range, I forget)
ACT: 30
SAT2: didn't take any, lol no extra dumb tests if I didn't have to!
GPA: 4.1 something (we have weighted for AP and Honors)
Class Rank: 4th out of 200some (dunno how many kids dropped out this year)
Also, for those worrieda bout J. Crew U...I do NOT come from a wealthy area. My family is fine and all, but my school is far from financially fortunate and my area does struggle to come up with funds for just about everything and I did not feel out of place at MU. There are tons of friendly people, whether they wear polo shirts or not. :) Of course...I haven't actually gone to SCHOOL there yet, but I visited 4 times and have a couple friends there.

I'm pretty sure I'm declining MU's offer of admission. I don't think I fit there like I do at my other option- Case. Not academically, but in those intangible ways. But I'm leaving my visit to Case tomorrow to help me decide once and for all.

Celebrain25...don't keep us waiting, what did you decide?

I decided to go to case :D. It was a very close call though :p

Much success to you! I wish you all the best.

I'm in! I'm from Berlin, Germany, and intend to major in international affairs/ diplomacy and sthg else, def going to be a dbl major. Don't know where I'm living or where I'll be getting me pints, but we'll see.
GO REDHAWKS!!!

P.S. anyone else here from Deutschland?

congrats... how'd you hear about miami?

Just browsing through the Internet. I was like public Ivy, international scholarship..... so going for it. I got into UC honors but I figured Miami to be the better choice.

very nice... its a great school

just curious --- UC? Cincinnati? Berkely? which UC

Have you visited?
