Who's In?

Hey, not from Germany, aber Deutsch ist mein zweites Hauptfach!

It was Cincinnati, and it was the only college I really visited. I visited U of Ky but only to see how the college atmosphere is.

Coole Sache, also machst du nen double major? Welche LLC hast du gewaehlt?

btw can you change your LLC after 1. semester?

Heilige Schie

LLC:

you could request to change rooms/dorms if for instance there was a problem with a roommate... but other than that, I don't see a reason to.
The LLCs really are not that important in my opinion

What is LLC?

living learning communities

you choose your dorm by picking your top 3 preferences of LLC...

ex: Healthy Living (South Quad by rec), Leadership, International, Arts, Honors

Ja, ich studiere auch Zoologie (pre-med). Ich habe Honors gewaehlt, aber ich denke, dass der Name des Honorsschlafsaals anders ist (vielleicht irgendetwas mit Denken oder Wissen).

Anyway, we should probably go back to English. :)

I've only heard of one person changing LLCs, and she had a problem with her roommate. It's probably possible to switch at the semester, but you would have to have a good reason.

Oh, that's kind of interesting (LLCs). Is that just for freshman year?

Isn't there a freshman seminar thing too? Or am I melding schools again?

I have to tell you all, this is way too much fun re-living Miami vicariously through your input and experiences. Thanks for humoring me :)

haha. yes, its just freshman year...

Freshman seminar? i'm not sure what that is...so maybe not

freshmen do have the option to take a 1 hr class with students from their LLC though (i did not do this)

That IS what I am thinking about, I think... It's optional though, eh? At the price of college credits these days WHY would anyone take it???

Some LLCs require the 1-hour class, like the German floor. Honors has an optional seminar that counts as an honors course, which I took. Students probably take the optional seminars to get to know other students in their dorm? LLCs aren't just for freshmen though; Honors and the language floors (to name a few) are available for upperclassmen. However, you're not required to live in an LLC after your first year.

Bumping for the info...

I Just got back from orientation, I had one main question.... When do we know what books we need to purchase?

Duke-
It used to be that once you knew which classes you got into, all the bookstores had the class book requirements. Go early and buy the used books. At least that was how we did it in the dark ages...
:)
Current students I am sure will weigh in here and clear up any changes in procedures...

You'll be able to order books through Miami's bookstore (search "bookstore" on Miami's home page) starting in August. Some people order through Follett's, but I prefer Shriver (Miami's bookstore). You could also buy your books the day before classes or during the first week.

aussie-
Are there still used books available? Do the bookstores still buy them at the end of a semester?

Yeah, there are used books. However, when classes use new editions of books, you pretty much have to buy the new version. You can sell them back at the end of the semester, but you don't get very much money. My friends got about $20 for a $150 book.

That's pretty much how it was back then too. But I always figured better something than nothing, right?

There were a couple books I kept, thinking foolishly that I might "refer" to them later in my career - LOL!!!

The only book I ever wanted and wished I WOULD have kept was from my GEO of US National Parks class. One of my kids is a geology nut and we spend a lot of time out west and at the national parks, I can barely remember all the formations, etc. Such a shame :)
