Why is it taking so long...

Woop Woop :P

I’m pretty glad too. UCF is so perfect.

Ok, so when you stack them up, if UF is the hardest school to get into … where does USF and UCF fall? According to the college search sites, UCF and UF were Reach schools and USF was a Match for her. So considering she didn’t get into USF what are her chances of getting into UCF then??? I’m banking on the fact that UCF has not responded to her since she applied in November, so she’s still being considered … but damn, this is hard to predict!

Thanks for the info on FAU … we visited the campus in January and got that commuter feel, but they said they’re working on having more residents with the opening of their new dorms this fall (Innovation Village - like a resort, really!). I’m hoping the new stadium and school of medicine will bump up their status and interest also. I don’t think we had much of a choice anyway with the other schools not picking her up. It sucks because she is a really great student, but just couldn’t get her SAT scores up (tried 3 times - just not a great test taker). But I understand that this year many of the state schools got thousands more applications than last year (USF said they got 10,000 more) and in order to make the application review more manageable, they have to eliminate people based on their GPAs and test scores first. Even here in New York, there’s a community college that was always a safe bet for anyone, you basically could just walk onto campus and sign up, and now it has become very competitive because of the economy.

Well, if UCF doesn’t pick her up, it will be their loss! Maybe being at a smaller school will make it easier for her to shine anyway. She just has to stay away from the legendary “Boca B-tches” - do they really exist?! LOL!

The Boca **es do exist, but I guess as much as any stereotype exists. There are two halfs of Boca – the side that is actually Boca (where FAU is, east Boca) and the side that just takes the name (west Boca). I’m in west Boca and I think they’re more of an east Boca thing. I mean, when I think of Boca **es I think of 40-50 year old women with fake tans and whatnot. But, I mean, no matter where you are you’re going to get people that fill stereotypes and people that defy them. Just make sure she’s aware of the plethora of old people!

USF has a very… special… admissions system. Whereas places like UCF simply look at your stats and make their decision, USF has a matrix graph and how you fall into the graph decides your fate. Its confusing, but not comparable to UCF.

When UCF came to my school last fall, the rep also said they look at which program you’re interested in going to. They hold people going into more prestigious programs to higher standards. I’m going into a program there which is ranked higher than UFs and FSUs, and so it’s much harder for me to get into UCF, under these circumstances. My GPA is lower, but I’m guessing they’re paying lots of attention to my extracurriculars, like my botball team, who won first this year in a tournament, and got a judge’s choice award for outstanding programming. I also have my own side programming projects as well. But yeah, the guy made it sound like it really matters which projected major you chose.

@Ari - Funny you should say that because when we went to the open house at UCF they said it DIDN’T matter what your declared major was (with maybe the exception of Engineering and skill specific programs like that). My daughter applied as a PoliSci major, but they said that didn’t matter.

The only drawback to UCF is my D wants a Communication/Media program and UCF doesn’t have that major. She also enjoys History, Government and Politics, but she’s not completely decided and will probably bounce around for a few semesters until she settles into a degree path.

What major did you apply for? And did you get a decision yet?

Just curious-- Does anyone know if UCF considers your SAT out of 2400, or do they focus more on just your Critical Reading and Math sections? Thanks for any feedback :)

I’ve been deferred since November, and I applied with Computer Engineering.

Not sure on that, as21, I’ve never gotten a straightforward answer.

OMG I’VE BENN ACCEPTED!!!
I’m sooooooo happy! I don’t even care that it’s for the summer term i’m just glad that I’m in! Although it says that I can start in the summer and then continue in the fall, so i’m just wondering why they couldn’t just accept me for fall if either way I will end up attending fall after summer most likely.

Yay congratulations :)

Congrats! Did you hear back today, mellorine? Edit: Found your stats :P

Thanks guys  And yeah, I got home from school, checked my status, and I realized it changed to: “You will be offered admission and can choose to enroll in the summer term rather than the fall, and then continue enrollment in the fall term.”
And at first I was confused because it didn’t say congratulations or anything so then I read it again more slowly and understood. Basically if I say no to their offer they’re just going to flat out decline me.
-___- But it’s okay, because I’m pretty sure I’m going to say yes cause I realllyyyyy want to go to UCF. :)

So, I applied back in October & I just recieved this on my online status today…
& Yes UCF is my 1st choice -___-

We are offering you a place on our wait-list for future consideration. Certainly, we understand that this may make it difficult for you to finalize your college enrollment plans, especially as they relate to housing and responses to other offers of admission. Therefore, we are asking that you indicate whether you would like to be placed on the wait list or if you wish to cancel your application by sending an email to alice.hardy@ucf.edu. We anticipate providing you with a final notification of your admission decision no later than May 31st.
Please provide your full name and date of birth when sending your reply.

MAY 31st!!! Really!?!

Eff ! I got the same ****ing thing

Why oh why couldn’t I have just gotten summer? Gosh. I knew I shouldn’t have listened to my idiot mom who told me to apply for Fall, or the stupid lady on the phone who told me that I should apply for whatever term I’d prefer because I’d be considered for both.
All I ****ing do is wait.

UCF offered almost 600 freshmen applicants wait list spots last year, only about 100 were eventually admitted. I’d tell UCF to get jammed!

UCF 2010-2011 Common Data Set Wait list info:

C2. Freshman wait-listed students

(students who met admission requirements but whose final admission was contingent on space availability)
Do you have a policy of placing students on a waiting list? yes: no:
If yes, please answer the questions below for fall 2010 admissions:

Number of qualified applicants offered a place on waiting list 587
Number accepting a place on the waiting list 367
Number of wait-listed students admitted 103

Is your waiting list ranked? No

I wish they just would’ve rejected me so I can get on with my life. I’ve waited for this for SIX MONTHS and they tell me NOW I have to wait LONGER to most likely NOT be accepted… and ON TOP of that they have the nerve to make us wait until MAY 31st? Are you kidding me MAY THIRTY FIRST and risk not being able to go to other schools?
Really funny UCF. Hilarious.

Argh Argh Argh!!! I still haven’t had a response! I’ve confirmed again that they have indeed retrieved my transcripts… So many people got responses today… I can’t tell if that’s a good sign, or a horrible sign.

Mayday, I kinda took solace in having you waiting with me. Now I feel empty D:

Me too ! I’m so upset right now. Ughh. I thought they’d at least offer me summer. Ohh & what a GREAT day to give out responses. Friggin April fools. I keep looking at my status like it’s some kind of joke.

I’m nervous… What if this means that all acceptances have been given out, and waitlists, and the rest of us will be denied tomorrow D:

Actually, that wouldn’t be too bad, because then I could apply to Neumont. They had 100% Job placement within 6 months for their class of 2010 graduates, and the average salary was bumped up to $70,000.

Buttttt, they’re in UTAH!

Edit: Just sent an email confirming that they have all of my information again, and updating with all of my new awards and stuff… I’m going to be FREAKING OUT until I get a reply.
