<p>I dont understand why SAMS is almost entirely URMs when there are programs specifically for that ? I heard in recent years that out of everyone accepted (usually about 50) only 2 were white. Is it just that the URMs were stronger applicants or are they specifically looking for them as with MITES? Im not trying to offend anyone in this but this statistic confused me. Please offer any incite.</p>
<p>SAMS specifically looks for URMs (similar to MITES). On their website they state that they are seeking people with diverse backgrounds, so I think their parameters are a little looser than MITES. Diverse backgrounds would mean that they are looking for URMs, low income students, first-gens, and other unique students.</p>
