Yes, I would be ecstatic if I received that scholarship. Do you think that I have an excellent chance of being admitted in RD? I don’t know any other way to strengthen my app. I just sent them my ACTs …I got 31 in Math 29 English (29 English + writing)

I know I can’t figure out why they would defer me?!
What do you think it was??

And I am a female…a minority in the engineering field

Find out more about the engineering program and its acceptance rate. Email the director, and try to find out why you might have been deferred. He won’t know too much info about admissions, but he’ll probably know how competitive it is in a general sense, and maybe what they look for specifically. They probably look for very strong math and science grades (and test scores). You got a 22 in ACT science, that might have scared them. Retake the SAT’s or ACT’s and get the math and science scores up.

The people in your school who got in… am I correct in assuming that they applied to pretty standard programs?

Technically an 1810 is lower than the mean 50th percentile of 1850-2050. You are pooled with engineering applicants and an 1810 is extremely low. The student who were accepted over you probably had higher sat’s but lower gpa’s. I think you have an ok shot for engineering. You would have been accepted for arts and science but engineering is a reach. Good luck maybe retake test if possible.

Well, if you look here, your SAT score is in the bottom 25%:

[Northeastern University Undergraduate Admissions > High School Students > Academic Profile](http://www.northeastern.edu/admissions/highschool/academicprofile.html)

1850-2050 is the middle 50%.

Your GPA, on the other hand, is in the top 25% (assuming your 4.0 GPA is UW). You do seem like a great fit though. If it would make your deferral easier, I’m gonna go and say they deferred you cuz of your SAT score, as that is the ONLY thing in your application that is below their standards. But remember, you did NOT GET REJECTED. There’s still RD for you, and I am sure they will look past your SAT score (as they did to mine - I had an 1820) and they will accept you. They will take note of the fact you applied earlier for EA. They will take note of the fact that you are a female applying as an engineering student. They will see your excellent GPA and your great EC’s. And your ACT scores are good (better than your 1810 SAT score). I would be VERY surprised if you do not get in. We all would be surprised. I know it’s VERY frustrating right now, as I would be just as irritated in your position, but these things happen. Many highly qualified students get rejected from universities, and they constantly wonder why they got rejected. We’ll never truly know. But I do not see a rejection in your future. I really think you’ll get accepted, especially if you send them a letter saying NU’s your #1. Please, I know it’s hard, but try to relax. Everything will turn out great in the end, I’m positive.

Well the first time I took the ACT I got a 24 in science, I messed up big time the second time I took it. If I were to take another Standardized Test, I would for sure do worse. I am not an excellent standardized test taker; however, I don’t think this defines my application. I thought that my rigorous schedule and great grades would have gotten me accepted EA. Everyone I have told has been surprised that I was deferred. And, my essay was really good… I wrote about an issue I have and continue to deal with and how I refused to let it define who I am, and how I overcame dwelling on it. My recommendations were really good too! I just am confused as to why I would be deferred. SATs, I initially thought but these people from my school were accepted with similar … and I’m not positive which programs they applied into, not engineering (except for one kid who is of hispanic ethnicity - this is not meant to sound offensive in anyway).
I don’t know why I would have gotten deferred though. It’s really upsetting considering it was my first choice. What is my percent chance of acceptance in RD?
On my chances .net , they said I had a 90% chance, it’s just confusing to me.

My Best ACT results all together would be
31 Math
29 English
22 Reading (I know…)
24 Science
29 (English + Writing)

Thank you!

A 90% chance is just silly. Can you swith majors? And then try and transfer in internally perhaps?

What? You think that I don’t have a 90% chance of being admitted EA?

You have a good ACT Math score, which will help you considering you’re applying as an engineering student. CP’s chances don’t make any sense, don’t take them any mind. I can’t give you an actual percentage, cuz quite frankly that doesn’t mean anything. I think you have a GOOD chance. We all think you do. There’s nothing that can be done and we’ll never actually pinpoint why you got deferred. I advise not to dwell on the reasoning behind it any longer, or you will become INSANE. Chillax, you’ll get in for RD. I bet my left nut you will get in. That’s how positive I am.

Regular Decision *

Haha, okay, thanks.

I think 50%, engineering is really competitve however being a girl is also a plus. I agree with malik just show that neu is indeed number 1. But hey if you don’t get in you’ll at least receive maliks leftie which should also be intersting.

Yeah, now for MY sake, you have to get in.

Well, then I better get in. I kind of need to if I don’t want to loose my sanity…

honestly, i don’t think your EC’s are that great. Another position in an interesting club would have made more of an impression.

I didn’t include everything. I actually started a sailing program from developmentally challenged kids. I’ve sailed since I was 5 years old and I am a sailing instructor, a life guard … so I thought I should give back so I developed this program with my friend…

I thought that was an impressive EC, what do you think?
