Both threads talk about a daughter who wants to go to Elon, pursue a career in teaching and mom doesn’t want her to go. Both are also from Illinois? Mom wants her to go to a state school. Methinks this is no coincidence. Does daughter have a thread too? ;)

^^me thinks we need that to actually help…

Mom has to let go. My S got accepted to one school that is really close to home and others that are a little farther. I would love it if he was close by, but the reality is that I don’t think it’s the right choice for him. And I have to let him make his own choice and let him do what is best for him.

jrcsmom you sound like a terrific mom. I know it will be hard to say good-bye to my son who is going away this fall. But knowing how happy he is going to be brings me more joy than I can say. I do have to admit having my dd only an a hour away has made things easier, but if she also wanted to go to a college far away we would have let her. I hope the OPs wife decides to cut the apron strings.

This is about having an empty nest perhaps . All kids leave at some point -that is the normal pattern for most kids .

Sorry folks…Thumper MEANT to post that link so that this OPs wife could read it…on the thread SHE started…about the same issue.
