My boyfriend is hoping to transfer to UCI in fall 2010 and was short one english class to meet the transfer requirements... He is now signed up to take this class this upcoming summer. UCSB rejected him saying he didn't meet the UC standards? He has a 3.7, with tons of outside work and community service/volunteering/job shadowing. He was unable to take english during fall 2009 because of budget cuts at his CC, and now the english classes were either full or conflicting with his schedule. They weren't part of his earlier UC transfer update for summer 2010 because sign ups just started. He will have over 70 credits when done with the semester.

Any tips or comments anyone can provide that would be of any help? They would be greatly appreciated! We really don't want him to have to spend another year, until fall 2011, in his current living conditions. Please help!

Officially, a student has to have all needed coursework completed by the end of spring semester for fall entrance. You may be able to call the school and find a loophole around that.

So he should spend another full year at a JC because of one class? Budget cuts at the CC caused 5000+ students to not be able to sign up for their classes…=/… I find it highly unfair and that he should be rewarded for his hard work and not have to fight through another year of it there…:(

Is there anyway that appealing could do anything? He had an unweighted gpa of 4.0 in high school… I truly believe he deserves to go to a UC now…

@ Peterr86, I thought there was going to be no Winter 2011 like last years, thank you SO much for giving us hope! You have no idea how much better I feel right now! :)

@EmpathyInAnarchy, he couldn’t afford the commute, no cars, and even all the internet classes were totally full with full waiting lists. (no exaggeration)

I meant internet classes at other CC’s. Surely, they were open somewhere. All he would have to do is register at the other CC, which happens pretty much instantly. He might even be able to sign up now in a late starting class.

I guess that didn’t come up as an option, he had taken English 38 which fulfilled the eng requirement for 2nd semester of english at another private university so I assume he thought it would do the same?
