IMAGINE THIS SITUATION:

an applicant has a plethora of Cs, and a couple of Ds and Fs during one of his semesters during Sophomore year...

but his overall stats turn out to be:

Unweighted GPA = 3.35
Weighted GPA = 4.25

SAT = High 1300s

Good SATs

National AP Scholar

Very accelerated in math.. (taking high level math in college junior+senior year)

Good ECs..
Several Small Awards...

Does this applicant have a chance at UNC???

Applicant is instate and all of his bad marks are 1 SEMESTER.. the rest of the semesters are really good..

And the only excuse he has for the bad marks is:
-English as foreign language
-Lots of Stress when first entering AP program
-Trouble concentrating in class..

Do you think the applicant has a good shot for acceptance or probable rejection?

Varience: Yes I think you definetly have a chance. If I were you, I would write an essay explaining the excruciating circumstances you faced during that semester, and how you overcame that (which you obviously did) Give it a shot, and best of luck!

wat would the best way to discuss it???

and will it still hurt me if i shown my competency in the subjects..

No I think you'll be okay, like if you got an F in Algebra II and then an A in AP Calc I would definitely call attention to that in your essay. Plus I heard UNCs avg. GPA was 4.2 so I think you'll be fine.

also I'd focus more on how well you've done since and briefly explain why you did bad. you dont want it to come off like, just an excuse.
