Will dropping Calculus affect my UF Fall 2018/Honors admittance?

Hello, all.

I am a dual enrollment student from a Florida high school. I am taking Calculus along with 4 other college classes this semester at my local state college. I am struggling in Calculus and am considering dropping it. I was admitted to UF Fall 2018 and UF Honors. Does anyone think that my withdrawing from Calculus will affect their decision to admit me to either or both of those two things? I have received all As throughout my high school career and in all my college classes except for two (sociology and trigonometry). If anyone has any wisdom to impart, please do–this is an urgent matter for me.

Thank you so much in advance!

I don’t think so, your admittance is on your demonstrated skills, I think a disaster in your grades should happen to revoke the decision, dropping a course will no impact tremendously in your current grades.
Also, work to improve your math skills for the upcoming placement test at UF.

I would call admissions and ask them. I know someone who was admitted to a school in Illinois, as an athlete on a half-scholarship, and he had a D in AP Calculus. He wanted to drop the class. They called the school and the school told them that he needed to stay in AP Calculus and get a C or better, or they would rescind his acceptance and scholarship. I know not all schools would respond in the same manner, but again, I would call admissions and ask them before dropping the course.

Thanks for the information! Can you tell me more about the placement tests? I’ve never heard of them.

UF has been using the ALEKS placement exam for placement in algebra, precalculus, calculus and general chemistry. You only need to take this one exam for placement.

Note, if you already have the incoming credit for the class, you don’t have to take the placement test. However, if you’re dropping calculus, you likely will not having any incoming credit for calculus.

EDIT: You should take the test before Preview.
