Hey everyone,

I am an international student who just finished college, and got accepted into UCLA with anthropology major.

I got a D on my major class, which is anthro 1.

Will my admission be canceled since I did not pass the course?

I will write a letter that I had so much problem in this semester, which is that my mother's death and getting involved in car accident)
I will also report that I am planning on retaking the course during summer before UCLA starts.

Do I still have a chance to get into UCLA?

Please give me a hope.

Thanks.

Wow, I’m so sorry to hear about your mother and accident. I think the only way that you potentially would not get rescinded is if they were to understand the situation that was at hand for you this last semester. If they don’t… well I don’t even know. Good luck though and again I’m sorry. :(

You have been thru some extreme situation, so contact them and explain, retake the class over summer, you might be fine! Good luck.

Before contacting admission, try to explain your situation to your anthropology professor. May be ask for extra coursework or make-up exam with point deduction? I think any understanding professor will give you a second chance. Good luck.

If you did fine in your other courses it might be a hard sell but maybe talk to your professor to see if he/she can help you out.

I am currently waiting for the acceptance from UCLA,2012, as the same major as you( Anthropology major). Plus I am also international student. I am so sorry to hear your mother’s death. I also had the same experience 6 years ago. When I was in high school, my mother committed suicide. So I really feel your pain. When I read your comment, I felt that I have to send you this message to you. I also have one question that come to my mind. I f you don’t mind can I ask you your GPA when you applied to UCLA? Thank you so much for reading this message. And, I truly hope from my heart that you will be okay physically and mentally.

it seems doubtful that your admission will be rescinded. UCLA is a public school. and students who live outside of california are left to pay the full tuition costs to attend UCLA. while 90 percent of the students are californians who pay little or no tuition.

you may need to explain why you failed the class, but that is all. it is my belief that UCLA, and all UC schools, consider past experiences and grades and do not rely very much on what might happen between the time they read our applications and the start of the school year. this is a double edged sword because some kids who do extremely well during their final semesters, and still don’t get admission. while others do poorly during their final semester, and gain admission. if you were admitted already, there was a reason for that. and that reason did Not go away because of a single grade. it is however, important to communicate information to the schools in a timely and efficient manner in order to maintain the “good standing” that they require. i am not an expert, but i wish you the best of luck.

^this thread is from last year dude.

well, did the dude get into UCLA? haha
