Hey everyone! It’s about to be my senior year in highschool and I’ve been very adamant about getting into Texas a&m. With those who attend I would really like advice and accurate opinions on wether or not I have a good shot! I took my 3rd sat last month and got the highest score I’ve gotten yet which was a 1340 here are the rest of my stats
*rank (288/600)
*Gpa (3.35)
*im in the top 48% of my class
in multiple extra curriculars
I’m debating if I should take my act or just go ahead and apply to a&m with my sat score I’m hearing diffrent things from my class mates and teachers so I’d feel more comfortable with advice from someone who actually attends thank you’
Being in the second quarter of your class is a big ding against you. However, you SAT is good. Being a review applicant, it is impossible to say yes or no for certainty, because none of us will ever see your complete file.
Here are a few post breakdowns from last year. While they are not the whole story, it can be a guide to who is offered what. Applications opened July 1 but applying early does not affect most review applicants. That said, you can apply and you can anytime before the deadline and still submit updated SAT/ACT scores until Dec.8.
That said, make the most of your essays. Tell your unique story. Don’t tell them what you think they want to hear. Course rigor also can factor in and how college ready the consider you to be. Apply to some safety schools as well. Safety in not only getting in but being able to pay for it. If you are admitted or get Blinn Team, A&M won’t give you any merit aid or scholarship (you could apply to some that are through A&M but not from the school itself) so it would have to come from you and the government will only give you $5500 for your first year. You would have to come up with the remaining 20K.
Blinn Team
2nd quarter
PA 3.85 unweighted
SAT: 1400
ACT: 30
Just to add on I am African American and I do plan on writing my essays with my blood and soul. Obviously I will have back up schools and obviously I won’t get my hopes up but I just want to know that there is a possibility I will get admitted
@victor electric
Write your essays in wordpad not a word doc. The essay is less likely to be truncated or loose its formatting with wordpad than word doc when copied and pasted into the Apply Texas field.
Make sure to re-read it very carefully and edit well for spelling, tense, punctuation, etc. See if an English teacher will help you by being another set of eyes. Once copied and pasted, make sure it is whole and in good order.
There is nothing wrong with hoping. Even if you are offered Blinn Team over full admissions, you are still considered an A&M student and have all rights and privileges as full admit students except you cannot participate in an NCAA sport. Kick butt that first year and apply to transfer. There are some majors that offer guaranteed admittance to major with their partnership with Blinn. Here is a list of those and the requirements. Make sure to click on the incoming 2017 links. http://blinnteam.tamu.edu/AdmissionAgreements.aspx
While your scores are 50% of getting in, what you bring to the table is the other 50%.
Word pad? Where do I find that and thank you Thelma! I’m probably going to take my act once just to see how I do and maybe that’ll raise my chances! I just want to know if you’ve heard of anyone getting lucky?
Yes, I have heard of others getting lucky. Over the last two cycles of admissions (my son is class 2020 in engineering) I have seen some get full admissions in my opinion I thought would be offered PSA or Blinn. They are not the rule though.
What major are you applying for? Know that Engineering has it’s own review process and Mays fills quickly with auto/academic admits. Both offer very few admissions to holistic review candidates.
Do try the ACT. Some find it gives them better scores than the SAT.
You can go ahead an apply when you are ready. Being a review applicant, you won’t receive a decision before Dec. 1 and you can submit test scores after you send your application and other supporting documents up to Dec 8.
Depending on your major, most review applicants received their admissions decision in mid February, so be prepared for the wait. That said, some did receive a decision before then (only full admissions, not Blinn Team). The key is once you do receive a decission of full admit or Blinn Team, you need to apply for housing that day or asap. You only have 30 days for priority housing. The longer you wait, the less choice you will have.
MS word comes with wordpad. It is just a plain text editor. You can search for it on your computer. I bet it is there. We learned about it from being on this site but it is also in the Apply Texas instructions. https://www.applytexas.org/adappc/html/preview17/ugr_essay.html
Howdy, I’m a current high school senior who is trying to get in to the TAMU Civil Engineering department!
-Top 8% in my class
-Sat : 1060, 1070
-Act : 22
-9 AP/Pre AP courses taken, 5 dual credit courses taken
-Over 500 volunteering hours
-Student Body Reporter
-Varsity Baseball 3 years, and a letter
-2 years in Chior
-A few teacher selected awards
-UIL member for 1 year
-Written all 3 of the required essays
-Part time job
Any idea on my chances? Also, is there any way to submit SAT/ACT scores after you have officially applied? My scores are clearly poor and I hope I can submit a more respectable one.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks y’all.
@victor Electric Being a holistic review candidate, and A&M having rolling admissions except for engineering (Rolling admissions means that as soon as someone is admitted to the university, they are placed into their chosen major). Some majors fill up very quickly. I do not know if BIMS fills quickly or how competitive it is to be accepted for holistic applicants.
Be sure to complete everything that is listed as “optional”.
@thelma2 What do you think about Top 12%, SAT 1370 but 740 math/630 English. Highest English was 660 on another test. Superscore is 1400 but I know that is irrelevant. Business.
@aggiesomeday123 Anyway to retake the SAT again and maybe bring that English up a bit for academic admit? You would have a sure shot at Mays then. As a review applicant as you are now, a lot will depend on the rest of your application. Review admits do get into Mays but because Mays fills on a rolling admissions basis (meaning that as auto/academic admits are admitted into the university, they go directly into their major), that most spots are filled in Mays by them. They do keep open some spots for highly qualified review applicants.
Being a review applicant for Mays, be prepared to wait to hear an admissions decision until February (around the third Friday the last few years) and be pleasantly surprised if it comes before then. You could also be placed into your second choice major. Your rank and score are good.
Also, the alternate pathways to full admissions (Blinn Team, Gateway) and PSA decisions do not come out until that time as well. Good Luck.
I wish I had a magic ball and could give you a solid answer. Review applicants make up such a small pool after all of the auto and academic admits that it is impossible to say who will gain full admissions and who will receive one of the pathway decisions because we cannot see the entire applicant file. Even if we could, none of us are admissions officers and are not privy to how the selections work. I wish you luck and I am rooting for you!!
So I got a 1280 on my sat but because of my class size (1560) my class rank puts me i they 63%. I have all As and A+ this semester of school and my gpa updates soon. I’ve already submitted all of info to TAMU and have been “in review” for a month with no response yet. Even with my family graduating from there, I feel that I’ll probablt be a Blinn Team review admit. Can I still send in a new updated transcript when my grades update? Would that help me? What are my chances of getting in? I have strong ECs, my sat isn’t super high but it’s 30 above Tamu’s average. With this year, my new unweighted gpa should become a 3.8 or so… I’m super anxious as it’s mg dream school.
@Kaitlin99 The “Average” you see posted for TAMU is misleading because the posted “average” you see is not the “average” SAT for College Station admits but an “Average” of all types of admits, including College Station, Galveston, Blinn Team and Blinn Team Engineering Academy admits. Averaging all of these different types of admissions brings the “average” SAT score down. The average SAT score for College Station only admits is much higher, since over 85% of the full admits are auto top 10% and academic admits.
Secondly, being in the third quarter of your graduating class, does put you at a greater disadvantage for full admit to College Station. Depending on your circumstances and essays, an admissions to Gateway could be an option you could receive, as is, as you mentioned, Blinn Team. Have some back up schools as well, as PSA is also a possibility. Not everyone qualifies to attend all PSA system schools and sometimes it is beneficial to apply directly to that school. Same with applying directly to A&M Galveston, which is a branch school, vs a system school and you are an Aggie.
Legacy plays no part in A&M admissions. The deadline for supporting documents is Jan 10 (deadline to apply was extended to Jan 2 due to Hurricane Harvey). However, only the first 6 semesters are taken into account for your class rank and GPA but any awards/honors/leadership earned/bestowed/elected would be encouraged.
My son applied at the end of September to Texas A&M he is in the top 11% SAT 1210, 4.7 GPA first choice MAYS second Agbus. He has held leadership positions, clubs, sports, lots of community service hours. He is in review currently. I have heard people say that if you check that you would take BLINN TEAM that others that did not check that get in before you. Is that true?
