Will I get rescinded from Davis and SD??

I was just accepted as a transfer to the Molecular & Cell Biology major at UC Davis and UC San Diego. But I’m worried I might get rescinded due to my grades this semester. UCSD requires me to maintain a 3.0 and UC Davis a 2.8 in the current spring semester.

I currently have a C in a Math pre-req course (5 semester units) for both schools, but A’s in the rest of my classes (6 semester units total). These together are ok since they’re at least 3.0. But I also got a C in a Chem pre-req course (5 semester units) in Winter 2020. All of these combined equal a 2.75 gpa in “in progress” or “planned” coursework, which is lower than the threshold for both schools.

What are my chances of getting rescinded from both schools? Should I contact admissions for both ASAP to see if they can work something out?

@vanbes Hey there! I just got accepted to UCSD and I was literally just in your position. In your provisional contract, read it over again. I’m just clarifying, but do you have to have a 3.0/2.8 by the end of this Spring Semester (all “in-progress” or “planned”), or is it that you have to have a 3.0/2.8 after all of the 60 UC-transferable units? They are two different things.

I was worried about the exact same thing for me at UCSD until I reread my provisional contract. For me, I need to have at least a 3.0 by the end of the 60 UC-transferable units, aka after the two years of work. However, I can have at least a 2.0 by the end of this Spring Semester. Basically meaning, I need to at least pass every single class this semester with a C (2.0).

@fashionista99 Unfortunately for Davis it states: “Complete all transferable in progress or planned courses with a GPA of 2.80 or higher, with no grade less than “C,” by the end of your spring term.” For my specific major, it also states I must complete the Math class with a B in Spring, as my major is impacted and they have additional requirements.

For San Diego I think I am covered - just states at least 3.0 total over the past two years and 2.0 in the last term. Thank you SO much for pointing that out - I was afraid I would have to go to a back-up school because of this!!

@vanbes Ah okay I see. That is quite unfortunate for UCD… No problem! At least UCSD can potentially work out!

Is there any way to bump up your Math grade to a B? I assume there is some time left before school is over. If anything, you can contact UCD if you really want to go there. Plus, admissions should be understanding now about grades considering the situation we are all in nowadays.

@fashionista99 Yeah I’m glad UCSD is still in the running!

Davis is my top choice though so I reached out admissions to see if they would be lenient in any way…especially since many of the math tutoring services are not as available at the moment. In the meantime also working with my Math professor to see what I can do to boost my grade! Fingers crossed

Hey there! Today I called the Davis admissions office and was able to get the answers I needed about my status given I dropped and then added a new course to my schedule. The transfer advisor on the line worked very quickly and was super competent. She mentioned that its harder to get through to someone immediately right now given that freshman have to make their decisions by Friday.

TLDR; calling seems to be the move rn given freshman are SIRing by Friday.

@vanbes Yes, definitely try to reach out to Davis. Good luck with everything!

@michtrei1 thank you for that tip! I just called and they said if I’m at risk of getting a C in math, it would be better to take the class as P/NP and I “should be okay.” I’m sending them an email to see if they can confirm that in writing before I submit my SIR next month. I also just found this on the UC website - which I think should cover me if I don’t get an email in writing?

"Each campus sets its own selection requirements, which may include an expectation of letter grades in major preparatory coursework. While all campuses have been encouraged to be as flexible as possible, you’ll need to check with each campus individually for guidance on whether completing remaining major pre-requisites in spring/summer 2020 for a Pass or Credit grade will impact a decision.

Currently, UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, UC San Diego and UC Santa Barbara have agreed to accept Pass or Credit grades in major preparation completed in spring 2020."

@vanbes I’m glad you seem to have gotten the answers you needed! Best of luck
