Will my admission get rescind for receiving a "D"?

I received a “D” in a course that wasn’t specifically listed on the UC application. I’m not sure if that would make a difference, because the course didn’t applied to the A-G requirements or was an official course on the UC application. I have fulfill the A-G requirements & maintain above a weighted 3.0 gpa. However, I still received a “D” in the course, & it will show on my transcript for the second semester. I am concern that my admission may get rescind. With the COVID-19 situation & having to drastically move from physical learning to remote learning has been really hard, I’m not sure if the Admission Office will take that to account.

If it is not an a-g course, then it should not be an issue but you should let UCSB know about the grade since it is on your transcript and they will review your transcript against your self-reported grades/courses.

Thanks! I emailed the Admission Office & currently waiting for a response.

No it won’t. If you do IGETC or get an Associates Degree you can be accepted with a 2.0 GPA into UCSB. I know people who were accepted with a low GPA.

@thomas4881: Not sure what IGETC and AA degree has to do with the D grade in question? If you cannot offer any helpful information, then I would advise you not to post. I am assuming that you are saying that OP will be rescinded for the D and that if they want to attend UCSB, they will have to try to apply as a transfer?

Also a 2.0 GPA transfer GPA is not competitive for any UC. A minimum of 2.4 GPA is required to apply so please get your facts correct.

@Gumbymom I know a person who transferred to UCSB and had a 2.5 GPA with a D in French. IGETC was a guaranteed transfer agreement between UC and CSU and community colleges. You could have a D and still transfer to UCSB if you complete IGETC in community college.

In California existing law provides that a student who earns an associate degree for transfer from a community college is eligible to transfer into a California State University baccalaureate program when the student meets specified requirements.

@thomas4881:

OP does not state if they are a transfer student or Freshman. Either way, they should still contact UCSB admissions regarding the D since it will be on their transcript.

Regarding the 2.0 GPA comment, this is what the UC website states:

Are you a transfer student or freshman?

IGETC has never been a guarantee of admission. It is a set of courses that CSU and UC agree satisfy breadth requirements.

UC has a guarantee program called TAG at 6 campuses. At CSU you can get a guarentee of admission by completing the Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADT), although unlike TAG it does not guarantee a specific campus or major.
