Will My SAT Essay Seriously Hurt My Chances?

I am applying to some Ivies and other highly selective schools.

My SAT is 2360 one sitting (780 CR, 790 M, 790 W)

However, my writing breakdown is 100% on the multiple choice and 8/12 on the essay.

I do not believe I have poor writing skills, I think that essay was just a tad short (only about 1 page) and afterward heard on CC and from other sources that longer SAT essays tend to get higher scores even though CollegeBoard technically says essay length doesn't matter.

Also, I have A's in every English class in high school (all honors and AP classes) and a 5 on AP English Language; all of this is in my applications of course.

So, do you guys think there's a possibility colleges will see my 8 and reject thinking "poor writing skills?"

I don’t even recall Penn or any other college asking for my essay score.

It probably will go by unnoticed. Some schools like Cornell don’t really take the writing section into account as they only report SAT math and critical reading. I have friends and family who have been accepted into Ivies and other top tiers with overall scores below 2250. These schools try to take a holistic perspective on your app, so don’t sweat the small stuff like one bad score among a million good ones.

Chance me please:

Really, why would you think a 790 W score would say to an admissions officer that you have poor writing skills…

try not to worry about it- from everything i’ve heard, the sat essay means absolutely nothing (they realize that it’s timed and the grading is arbitrary) and i think they just use it occasionally to compare it to your main admissions essay just to make sure you actually wrote the admissions essay.
