We paid the housing deposit for my S very early (Sept. 22), so I think he should have a pretty good choice of dorms. We have looked through the housing site, and I am also somewhat familiar with the dorm choices and locations. We see that there is a new hall, Cypress Hall, opening this fall, in which most rooms are set up much like Hume–two doubles with a connecting bath. There are also “super suites,” with three doubles, two bathrooms, and a common area. Does anyone have a feel for whether this will be a good choice for freshmen? Or do you think it will be mostly upperclassmen? Also, I know that they are going to have quite a few ADA accessible rooms there. How do you think that will affect the overall culture of the hall, if at all?
It’s just opening…but…
It will have a large number of upperclassmen (2nd year students and up), as they had a chance to pick it when they recently renewed their housing agreement for next fall. How many, I don’t know, but full sized beds, bathrooms and location should make them popular.
Suite style housing also tends to be less social than standard dorms (with shared bathrooms). The rooms are much nicer than the standard dorms, but if you’re concerned about making friends, it’s going to be easier in the “freshman” dorms.
