I am an international transfer student and was admitted to a math major. In the spring quarter this year I got a D in calculus IV, which is a major preparatory course. The quarterly GPA is around 2.9. I reported the academic change last week. They called me back and required me to retake the class in the summer quarter. However, the quarter has already started and I can’t find any equivalent courses to enroll in. How likely will my offer be rescinded?
Pretty likely.
There is absolutely no where you can take it? No online classes, no other CCs or universities?
It is too late for me to register a class in other CCs. It seems that there is no online classes offered for this course.
What about nearby universities?
They really gave you a break allowing you to make it up over the summer, I’m not sure they’ll let it slide again.
Have you guys seen any cases like mine and the applicant eventually get rescinded?
I have checked and they don’t offer this course in the summer.
In fact my course GPA is equal to a C- in my CC but when she called me she says it’s a D. So I am completely frustrated. Do you think I should argue with her?
If you can prove with the points its a C, it may be worth an email asking her to clarify why you got a D (nicely, of course).
One point I am sure is, if she uses the standard of UCLA, then it will be a D+.
…wait what? What does your syllabus say about grades? Why would she use a UCLA standard?
In my CC’s transcript, it states very clearly that my grade point is equal to a C-. However, I also checked the UCLA’s catalog, which includes a grading system stating that it is a D+. When she called me she says I failed the course because I got a D.
I am not sure if it is fair to use their standard instead of my CC’s.
Why would she UCLA’s?
I am not very sure and I just guess that she uses the standard of UCLA’s grading system, because she said it very firmly that I got a D and failed the course so I have to retake it as soon as possible.
And you are absolutely sure your points add up to a C-?
According to the grading system stated in my transcript, yes.
It stated that 1.5-1.8 is a C- and I have a 1.5.
No, what about in your syllabus?
In my syllabus, there is only an equivalency table that translates the percentage of score into grade point. But nothing says about the alphabet grading scale. Because in our community college we normally use grade point 0.0-4.0 instead of alphabet grading .
A C- is still below a C (2.0 GPA).
Doesn’t UCLA have two or three summer sessions?
