William and Mary Application Advice from Current Student

Hey everyone!
I am an incoming freshman at CWM this fall. I was an ED applicant for the class of 2019 and after deferral/wait list, was accepted. If you have ANY questions at all, please post them here or DM me and I will try my best to answer them.

do you know anything about transferring?

Ahh sorry that’s one of the hings I don’t know much about at WM :frowning: but here’s the website. I only have experience with the freshman stuff

stay strong this fall everyone!! Try not to look at too many “chance me” threads…

hello!! Are you still reading replies?

@mary101 I’m an incoming freshman so I can answer questions about the application process but not about being a student at W&M.

Should I still apply to W&M with Early Decision if my junior grades were not so good (C’s and A’s)? Because I understand that in both regular and early decision, they see your senior grades anyway.

did u do an interview?

@mary101 With ED, they don’t see your senior grades before making the initial accept/defer/reject decision unless you opt to send your first quarter grades. Some schools do finish up their first semester early enough for applicants to send those grades, but W&M admissions officers are usually too far in the application review process to process and contemplate those grades. At least, that’s my understanding from what adcoms have posted on Twitter/Admit It regarding ED applicants sending senior year grades. I recommend that you apply ED if W&M is your first choice because you are competing against much less people and will have an easier time standing out amongst a pool of applicants. At my school, there were a few students who I personally thought would have gotten in if they applied ED but ended up rejected or waitlisted after applying regular. (Of course, the admissions process is holistic, I am not an admissions officer, etc. This is just my opinion).

@2016senior I didn’t do an interview. I live close enough that it wouldn’t have been a huge inconvenience to do one but I didn’t think that it was necessary because it doesn’t seem to make much of a difference for applicants. You won’t be at a disadvantage if you don’t interview, although interviewing can give you a slight advantage. If you’re interested in touring the school and don’t live too far away, you could always do an interview and then look around the campus.

Thanks! I was just concerned about getting rejected with ED because I ended junior year with a 3.796 weighted gpa so I was going to apply regular to get my gpa up.

Mary101 I would Defiantly do ED!

They admit half, defer 40% and only deny about 10%… applying early will show interest and if they think your jr year grades are in issue then you’ll probably just be deferred to RD @mary101

Does w&m consider superscore or single time score? My reading score this time is much lower but my writing score is much higher this time. Thx.

They superscore. Only verbal and math are seriously considered, but they review writing as well.

Thx.
