I am an intl and I have got it!

@barvoets whether or not it means anything it was nice to get an early notification… it always feels good to be called special :)

Is it? Now, I am tensed!!

Such a great opportunity but I think I’ve just made a decision - Villanova offered me all four years, full ride. I’m so excited. Good luck to all of you guys with the rest of your college search!

Intl. Got the email a few days ago too.

Got my fin aid package online and it includes a Presidential Scholarship (I received the e-mail last week). It appears to have eliminated work study. Is the paid research intership through CARA on top of this then?

Info on the Presidential Scholarship is here [Colby College | Admissions & Financial Aid | Presidential Scholars Program](http://www.colby.edu/admissions_cs/presidential/)
Basically if you get this scholarship, you’ll be working with a faculty member (chosen by you) on a specific project (list of topic here [Colby College | Admissions & Financial Aid | 2013-2014 CARA Research Projects](http://www.colby.edu/admissions_cs/presidential/2013-2014-cara-projects.cfm)) both over the summer and during the school year. It’s a paid research assistant position.
Int’l applicants do get this scholarship btw.

hey guys congrats on being presidential scholars. for the april 14th date, is colby able to pay for all the expenses of the transportation up to waterville? and you don’t usually go with your parents to see the campus or do you for the two days?

@kiss yea colby is paying for everything if your a presidential scholar. for most visits im going with my parents but i might go alone on this one since its being covered by the school

@watson oh thats really great then. makes the trip up much much easier. does anyone have a plan for going up alone then? I’m trying to see what I need for the trip.

And also a general question, is this designation an actual benefit or is it just a term used for roping in stronger applicants?

I got this scholarship offer too, but my financial aid package from Colby was pitiful compared to what Bowdoin and wellelsy are offering. It seems that this is a way for Colby to rope in people who have offers at better schools. Do you guys think its worth visiting since its free?

I got the scholarship and am planning to visit, but for me their financial aid was pretty comparable and the scholarship appears to have gotten rid of work study for me!

For the benefit of future classes, there was discussion about what this meant for your chances at other top northeast LAC’s. FWIW, I was waitlisted at Amherst, Williams, AND Dartmouth , so it probably means you are in a n OK position for those schools, but certainly no where near a safe bet.

Hi there!
I am a current student at Colby and also a Presidential Scholar. It actually is not a research grant, it is an academic scholarship (so it goes towards your tuition). There are other benefits that come with the honor, including a dinner at President William Adams’s house fall of your freshman year. During your tenure at Colby you will have to maintain a certain GPA to retain your status as a Presidential Scholar. It is a very big honor and the only purely academic-based scholarship issued by Colby. Congratulations on your selection!

For more information on the presidential scholars program at Colby, check out the page on their website: [Colby College | Admissions & Financial Aid | Presidential Scholars Program](http://www.colby.edu/admissions_cs/presidential/)

@colbymules2013 what GPA is necessary to maintain to hold the Scholarship? Is it 3.5 strict or 3.0?

@colbymules : Have you taken advantage of the paid research through the CARA program. If so, do you know how that factors into financial aid?

For the Scholar dinner/evening this Sunday, what is the dress code? Full suit or something a bit less formal?

@kissmeimnotirish

We got an e-mail with the itinerary a couple of days ago, and it says the dress code is casual.

Thanks ColDad59 but the question still sorta annoys me a bit. How casual are we talking? I don’t want to be out of place in either direction. I would dress up a bit but don’t want to over do it…
