Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

What position?
Used to be a winger back in Australia.

Just curious.
How long are your essays guys?
I called admissions and they said that it could be over 500 words.

@Matisyahu - Relax dude. Your stats are awesome, and you have a great chance of acceptance. The essays don’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Mine was a tad short of 500 words after editing, and I’m sure they won’t look at the word count. It was set in place, so the admissions people wouldn’t have to read 2,000 word essays per applicant about how U of M is the best. We’re all nervous, but unfortunately all we can do is wait it out. :/

@megagamerexe XD. Thanks dude. The wait will be the worst though.

If that’s truly the case with the 3.58 student getting in for Winter transfer, would that mean I have a good chance as well? That’s my current GPA to be exact and I’ll have 46 total credits from Michigan State by the Winter '13 semester. I’ve applied already but need to double-check if the rest of my qualifications have been sent in. I’ve applied for freshman admission and got deferred and again for Fall '12 semester and got rejected. So this is my third shot at transferring.

Just a side note, I’ve contacted the admissions department and asked about transfers, and they told me that in my position, most successful transfer applicants to the college of LSA have about a 3.3-3.6 GPA with about the same number of credits or more. So that may be a relief to some of you who are still applying.

Good luck to everyone!

That is a good relief Hamza, I just hope they stick to that GPA range and are not just fibbing.

I’m quite sure that’s the range, though it did vary slightly each time I called and asked. Once they told me it was 3.3-3.6, the next time I called they told me 3.2-3.5 and later on they again told me 3.3-3.6. But either way we’re in that range so we shouldn’t have too much of an issue.

@ Hamz - Did they say the minimum amount of credits that they’d accept when you asked them?

@megagamerexe Um there really isn’t a minimum amount of credits, you can transfer as early as your second semester of freshman year provided you have at least 14 transferable credits. But if you’re talking about a second semester sophomore or first semester junior transfer then you’d need roughly 43-60 credits or so for them to generally bypass your high school transcripts for admissions consideration.

how long did it take for the SAT scores to show up for u guys? i think its been more than a week but only my transcripts are reflected, not my SAT scores :(

Looking to transfer to LSA as a sophomore
50 units
3.9 college gpa
attend four year university in California
and local community college
high school gpa 3.0 (yes, terrible)
sat 1510 (terrible)
ec-volunteering at hospital, future doctors’s of america club, track and field, internship at pomona college with professor of neuroscience.

I know the high school grades are bad, but my college career is a lot better. What are my chances of getting in? please let me know!

Did you guys put titles for your essays
and did you guys double space or single space?

Laker, I think your chances are very good. Have you applied already?

@matisyahu no I haven’t applied yet, is it a good time to apply now for next year?

hey guys, so under credentials? What are the items that we need? I just have 2, one is the transcript-official final, the other one being the final secondary school report. What about you guys? Im just scared i miss something which makes my application incomplete!

@lakergang are you applying for the Winter term of 2013 or fall of 2013?

Hey how long did it take you guys to get your Wolverine Access code after you applied?

@ d4wnzz - I was worried when I looked at my credentials too because my ACT scores were the only things listed, and those were from my high school application. I received an e-mail that said, “Only those materials that we have not yet received will be displayed under Credentials—Other Required Application Materials.” If your transcripts aren’t listed, then it means that U of M has received them.

@ Matisyahu - My Winter 2013 application appeared in my wolverine access 2 weeks after I applied. I sent my application off on August 1st, and Wolverine Access said it was received on August 14th. If you’ve already applied to U of M like I have, and you typed in your last application number on the Common App, then it should appear faster.

@matisyahu I wanna apply for fall 2013 but I won’t have my internship or all of my units by the time the application deadline is due. How should i approach this? I was thinking of just applying to Winter 2013.

Winter 2013 is January 2013.
Fall 2013 is August 2013.

If you want to apply for Winter, the deadline is october 1st. I think you have a good shot man 50 credits. 3.9 GPA. Solid stats man.
