Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

@matisyahu Thanks man, I’m kinda afraid that my high school career will hold me back. Is there anyway possible to apply for Fall 2013 w/o having all my units done and then send them my transcript later once I have finished them? or just wait for Winter 2013?

@ lakergang - I think you are confusing Winter 2013 and Winter 2014 terms. The second semester of this year is Winter 2013, so you’d be applying with all the credits you have taken thus far. I honestly think you should apply for this upcoming term. U of M says the closer you get to 60 credits, the less they look at your high school stats. I think you’ll most likely get in. You just have to apply ASAP.

@megagamerexe I haven’t applied to Umich as a transfer student before. So when should I get a code for the Wolverine Access? I submitted by Common App/Supplement etc.

@megagamerexe Yeah thank you I was confusing those two terms. I was considering it, but I want to apply with an internship I am taking over the summer on my resume. I also do not have all my units complete til the end of the semester. I’m still not sure whether I should apply for fall or winter of next year.

First time user and first time post,

Just to give a little background. I’m in the first semester of my sophomore year at UC Berkeley. Possibly looking to transfer to UMich for the winter semester for personal reasons.

Haven’t taken too many courses, not sure yet how many credits that translates too, but definitely under 60.

GPA: 3.15 (little low but does coming from Berkeley help)
Extra-Carriculars:

-In a fraternity (social)
-On a sports team (Kind of a step above club but not varsity)
-Berkeley Investment Group (Investing mock stocks)
-Pretty good internship at a small investment bank in Mid-town NYC this summer.
-Have a solid letter of rec. from an econ teacher.
-Could probably think of a few others.

High school (I don’ know if these still matter)

GPA:
-Unweighted: Around a 3.7, Weighted: Around a 4.0
-ACT: 32
-Took 10 AP’s
-AP Scholar with distinction (I got an average of 3.5 on my tests and maybe five or six “4’s”
-Extra-Carriculars: Can’t remember off the top of my head but pretty decent stuff.
-Father is a Umich graduate student.
-Was accepted to Umich LSA for Fall 11’ but turned it down originally (I don’t know if that helps or hurts)

Anyway just wondering ya’ll think of my chances. And basically I was wondering if 1) Coming from UC Berkeley as opposed to a CC or something helps. And 2) If being accepted originally helps.

Thanks

Hey guys,
Under my view credentials, it says available links will vary based on application. Does this mean they have received everything since it is empty?

Mine says transcript received

I called admissions today and they said that they have high school transcripts/sat scores/ college transcripts/ recommendations.
They said if nothing is listed then nothing is needed.

But how will we know if our application is complete?

If you have no more materials missing, then you should be complete. You can also call and ask if your application has begun processing.

Are you guys applying to any other colleges?

If I don’t get accepted this term to UofM, I plan to apply to a ton next semester.

Hey all, I am a current freshmen at Concordia university in Irvine and I am looking to transfer to LSA as a sophomore next year.
High school:
gpa-3.1
sat-1600
was a part of multiple clubs and sports team in high school.

So far, I only have 16 units but I plan on having about 60 units by this time next year. I currently have a 4.0 and I plan on having the same grades throughout the year and not letting my grades go below a 3.8.
My main concern is that I want to apply for next fall but only having 16 units will not look very well. I was wondering if there is anyway to apply for next fall and once all my units and such are complete I can send them to the university and enroll? possible or no?
Please let me know!

One other thing, since I am applying as a sophomore do they still look at my high school gpa even though I have 50 units? I’ve been told that my units are good, but they’re still going to look heavily at my high school gpa. I’m so confused now!

Have you completed 50 units? Or will you have 50 units by the time you step in U-M?

Hey everybody. For those of you that have applied for transfer before, did you receive multiple emails from U of M with the title, “University of Michigan Application Received”. I just got my third email saying this. I received the other two in the middle of August. Does this mean that someone else is reviewing my app, or that they are close to a decision? Thanks!

Yes, I got two. It says my application has been received and it is being processed.
You might want to call them to make sure everything is complete. I called admissions and they said that it doesn’t state that it is complete. Just make sure nothing is under credential required. So call them just to verify that they have everything.

i just called. They sent me two too. It doesnt mean anything. No way close to decision. Decision is sent out in late october i think. Anyways did u guys send in recommendation letters???

I never got the emails and I applied as a transfer student before. My application is also confirmed as being in the processing stage. Did you guys do the Common App? I never did it.

Yes I did it through the Common Application.
I think decisions come out starting October 1st.

Ok. I just had mine migrated from last years attempt (when I did use Common App) and I never got an email saying application received or application being processed. As a matter of fact, last year I never got an email saying my application was being processed, I was only sent an email saying it was received.

Every time I have contacted UM admissions they said 4-6 weeks after your application is finished and prepped for processing. Mine began processing on the 23rd of August; therefore, I should receive a decision between September 20th to October 4th… if you guys have heard nothing from me by then, please send flowers.
