Winter 2013 Transfer Thread

Hey guys. Long time reader first time writer. I have a question! My application was received yesterday morning and I logged onto wolverine access yesterday evening-ish. It shows my application, but my credentials tab isn’t there. How long will it take until it will show up?
Thank you!!!

Hi cato, welcome! Your best bet is to give them a call just to make sure that they actually have your credentials. They can give you a timeline better than anyone.

@cato1992 if there are no credentials listed by next week then they are not missing anything. But albo23 is right - you should call them.

@d4wnzz, That was the same class that I bombed the second exam for. I think I got something like a 12.5/20 it. Do you have Snyder? And that wait was horrible, I had trouble focusing on anything at Pitt that semester because all I was thinking about was UM and I was already halfway gone.

I finished my application to UMich College of LSA last Friday hopefully would be know the result by the end of October.

My GPA is : 3.54 , according to last year’s New’s week Daily Beast my college’s academic rigor ranked top 5

College International Club Vice President
Working Experience at different appartments in my college
Fluent Japanese skills

I know my GPA is not an advantage, but our college is really really academic demanding!!

And Besides, My SAT is 1990, R+M 1350

Hey, just finished turning in my application and I wanted to see what you guys thought my chances were of acceptance.

Transferring to LSA as a sophomore
3.5 gpa (low I know)
60 units
attend a four year in beautiful California
I was able to intern with the chief medical officer of a huge chain of hospitals in southern California and he wrote me a great letter of recommendation. Volunteered at hospitals as well. Member of track and field in high school, choir, and multiple clubs.

I know my gpa isn’t as high as it should be but I’m hoping my letters of recommendation will give me a little bump. It’s a very prestigious internship. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks and good luck to you all!

Both of you have similar stats and similar chances.

Dreamingowl, your GPA might not be up there, but if UofM Admissions places weight on the rigor of your school… your decision could be favorable. However, keep in mind, Admissions probably does not read News Week’s Daily Beast. By the way, how many credits do you have?

Primitivecompany, you also have a good chance. The GPA is below the average but the credits is right where UofM wants it. For freshmen admissions, UofM places good importance on your extracurricular activities, I am not so sure for transfers.

Both of your chances rest on the amount of open spaces UofM has as well as what level of emphasis they put on your extracurricular activities. Absolutely best of luck to the both of you and I hope to see more posts coming from you two as we near decisions (two to three weeks from now).

Thank you Albo23!

I don’t know if it’s very fast to receive the result from U-M. I submitted it last Friday, from this week it should be maybe the end of October I guess? I am not sure how to transfer my college credits into a university system, I have 23 credis at college now. I have lots of extra-curriculum activities actually. I was the student president of my high school, I am the manager of my club facebook etc. The reason for my GPA 3.54 is so low is because I took Chemistry Seminar and a hard math courses, which both classes’ average grades were just C+ … I am so angry about this but can’t change at all…

@anthony: No i dont, but i have heard of him. Stephen Snyder. His tests are extremely hard, in deep contrast with James Maloy lol. I have Dan Berkowitz. But in whole, intermediate micro is definitely a hard class, i am really struggling and finding it hard to focus in class, esp with mich decision coming out in like less than a month.

Good Luck to everyone!

And if I guess correctly, 23 college credits might equal to 69 university system?

Besides, my class ranking is top 18%, I know I should have gotten into at least 10%–15%, but that Chemistry class gave a super tough score without curve to everyone. My smart friends got C with me together!

Another thing I am not sure is whether U-M transfer admission care about the recommendations much? four professors wrote recommendations for me. I am not sure whether U-M take a look at Art Supplement neithe, but if I include Art Supplement for other colleges I apply, there were 5 professors wrote letters for me. Well anyway, I think my biggest problem is GPA…

I am still unsure of how many credits you have. 23 college credits = 23 university credits to my knowledge. How many classes have you taken in total? How many years have you been in college?

Recommendations and class rankings are considered, but GPA is ultimately the biggest thing they look at.

I don’t think College and University credits system are the same. In college we usually take maybe 4-5 credis courses per semester, which is already a huge amount of work. So I have taken 23 courses in two years ( average course load should be 16, but I have extra credits so it’s 23 which is already much more) I have been in college already two years till now, I actually applied transfer laster semester, but I only aimed for other Liberal Arts College, since I didn’t get in, now I apply bigger university such as U-M.

Well I’m still pretty confused on the credit deal, but it doesn’t matter. You have been a student for two years now and should have accumulated the equivalent of 60 credits. With a 3.5+ GPA, you have a good chance of acceptance.

Thanks very much! I think it might be 1 college credits = 3 university units. That’s what I suppose. I know 3.54 is not an advantage, but I still hope if it would work out. Could I know why you emphasize credits as transfer? I actually wrote on the Common App. letter that if I was accept to U-M, I would like to delay graduation so that I can explore more and take deeper courses in my interests area, so I guess credits might not be a big issue to me. Based on last semester’s transfer experience, I think this time my whole application is much coherent and mature. It’s out of my hand now. I just struggling with my weak GPA during waiting days… Thank you!

@DreamingOwl - I think you have a good chance. U-M prefers 55+ credits (junior status) transfers. I think I read somewhere on this thread that the average GPA for transfer acceptances were around 3.6.

Thank you all! Yeah, my credentials tab showed up this morning while I was in class. It says I’m still missing ACT score (sent it yesterday, and heard that UM picks up ACT scores three times per week). Also says I’m missing official transcript but my university (U of M Dearborn) sent it last week, and I believe it was received on Monday by Ann Arbor. Just have to send my letters of recommendation to the ecredentials email. I have two from professors (one who is a Michigan alumni, don’t know if that matters) and a third letter from a notable alum. Now just for the grueling waiting game! Is anybody else from Dearborn looking to transfer to Ann Arbor? To those of you who have applied to Michigan before, is there anything that I should expect now that I have basically everything turned in? Also - how does legacy work? My grandfather went to Michigan and was on the swim team (lol). Sorry for all of the questions!

Also. Random. But have any of you ever taken a test online for a class and you felt something was wrong with the grading? I literally double checked every single answer and I somehow ended up with a 4/5. It was 25 question and each one was apparently worth .2 points. It just seems off to me! I am probably going to email my prof (she is new to Michigan and cTools) because it just seems off to me. Plus I’m pretty mad about an 80%.

To Matisyahu: Thank you very much! I guess 23 college credits = 69 university units, so credits should not be a big problem to me. I applied one week before the deadline hopfully I would receive the result soon later
