With my terrible test scores, what are my chances?

bump........

dude u call those terrible test scores?? lol
most of my friends would kill to have those scores (and i go to the #2 high school in my state)
and you have good extracurriculars, a solid gpa
unless u did TERRIBLE on the chemistry, you're solid
iv had friends with worse stats get into more than half the colleges u listed

take it easy!!!!

Duke-low reach
UC Berkeley-reach
UC Irvine-match
UCSD-not sure about this one
Northwestern (if I told them I was moving to Illinois, would they give me more consideration?)-doubtful since its private... reach.
UNC - Chapel Hill-high match.
University of Michigan-high match.
University of Wisconsin - Madison-in.
Grinnell College-in

good luck!! :)

Duke- low reach
UC Berkeley-reach [OOS screws you over for most uc's]
UC Irvine-match
UCSD-high match
Northwestern (if I told them I was moving to Illinois, would they give me more consideration?)-low reach
UNC - Chapel Hill-match
University of Michigan
University of Wisconsin - Madison
Grinnell College

Duke - Reach
UC Berkeley - High Reach
UC Irvine - Match
UCSD - Match
Northwestern - High Match
UNC - Chapel Hill - High Match
University of Michigan - Low Reach
University of Wisconsin - Madison - Match
Grinnell College - Match

I think if you just submit your ACT you should be fine

Would you mind explaining why UM would be a low reach for me please?

maybe it's more of a high match. I think you have a good chance, it's just that it's hard to say you're in at any top-tier public school out of state.

Ah ok, what about University of Illinois?

bump bump bump

How do state universities determine how out-of-state applicants are admitted?

Most of the kids at my school would kill for a 1950 so don't worry about it. It's far above average and a 31 is really good.

Duke- low reach
UC Berkeley- reach
UC Irvine- high match
UCSD- not really familiar so i can't say
Northwestern- low reach
UNC - Chapel Hill- high match
University of Michigan- high match
University of Wisconsin - Madison- not familiar
Grinnell College- match

Oh wow, I went to elementary in Stillwater. Did you know any seniors that graduated last year from SHS?

Bumped. Thanks again guys! I'll chance you back.

Duke-Low reach/high match
Berkely-Match
Irvine-Match
UCSD-Match
Northwestern:High Match
UNC-High Match
Michigan-Match
Wisconsin-Match
Grinnell-Match

Duke - Reach
UC Berkeley - Reach
UC Irvine - Match
UCSD - ?
Northwestern - Reach
UNC - Chapel Hill - Reach
University of Michigan - Low Reach
University of Wisconsin - Madison - Saftey
Grinnell College - Match

because ur out of state, most of ur state schools are reachs since they have to have a certain percentage of in state students.

31 ACT is a very solid score, this will definitely help with admissions (so your test scores aren't low at all!), your GPA is amazing! good job. i would say...

Duke- high match
UC Berkeley- low reach (it's a tough school for everyone)
UC Irvine- high match
UCSD- match
Northwestern (if I told them I was moving to Illinois, would they give me more consideration?)- Match
UNC - Chapel Hill- high match
University of Michigan- match
University of Wisconsin - Madison- safety
Grinnell College- safety

also some of these other chancers are basing their chances off of just your SAT score, which they shouldn't

an UW GPA of that high combined with a 31 ACT is very very good and gives you a solid chance at most of your schools

one last bump...I'd really hate to see this thread die...

Is this your whole list? I think you need a few safer schools. I think Duke, Berkeley, Northwestern, UNC (out of state), and Grinnell are bigger reaches than some are telling you, based on your scores.

Well, no. I also have Penn State, Purdue, Boston U, and UT-Austin. But I listed those because I wasn't sure about those particular schools. I'm fairly sure I can get into Penn State and Boston U. Purdue is my safety.

I'll chance the only school's I'm familiar with on an admissions basis lol
On the assumption all are RD:

Duke- Reach (they rejected quite a few valedictorians last year and scores are a little low)
Northwestern- Semi-reach, GPA will help, but 31 ACT is bottom-ish range for RD and in-state would probably hurt more than help.
UT Austin- It'll be a little difficult, because you're from Oklahoma and they base admission on top ten %, most spaces go to in-state kids (I'm from Dallas)
Purdue- Definite safety, you're in.
