I'm applying this Fall to UCLA, UCSD, UCI, and UCB that offer major in Sociology and minor Women's study (transfer student at CC)

3.5 unweighted GPA hopefully by end of this Spring
Been active board member with Business&Economics Club
Finishing Honors Program
Adding TAP to UCLA, and UCSB(if offered)
2 teacher recommendations
Also worked through out college(1 semester full time with 18units)

I am really trying hard to bring up my GPA to at least 3.7 but that wont be possible until next spring 2013. If I'm applying to ALL the UCs this fall with maybe a 3.5 gpa, will I have a chance? I changed my major from Business this semester but luckily I've taken many social sciences courses as GEs already. I studied Business for parents, however I know my passion is more toward Sociology and Womens Study.

Which schools will I most likely have a chance?

Good shot with irvine and sd. Load up on easy classes during summer, that’s what I did and boosted my GPA up. La and Berkeley is a reach just raise your GPA

You shouldn’t give out false information without checking. The average ADMITTED GPA for transfer students to UCLA in 2011 was 3.70 exactly.

For her major which is highly impacted the average admitted GPA was even higher at 3.82. To give her false information that she could be okay with a 3.4, could be costly.

Maybe you’re referring to the average applied GPA, meaning the average of everyone that applied, which includes those that were accepted and also those that were rejected., which was 3.37. Obviously because UCLA has a ~26% admissions rate for transfers, those that were near the average and had a 3.3-3.4 were rejected.

I was referring to the average gpa for women’s studies, which I assume is the major she is applying to since its the name of the thread. Average gpa admitted for women’s studies at ucla is 3.4, and admit rate was 54.44%. With a 3.5 gpa and 54% admit rate i think she’s got a good shot.

If you read what they said you’ll see they’re applying for sociology as the major, with women’s studies as a minor. On that note, tiffdang, consider what you want to do. If going to a top school is more important to you than which one you major/minor in, perhaps try to major in women’s studies and minor in sociology? That will probably up your chances.

Well, there are other institutions you can look at such as The University of Southern California. The costs are high at USC but they do give very good financial aid packages to well deserving students. You can check the the Norman T something something scholarship for hispanics? I am not sure about the details. I do know that at USC, you will get an education like no other where classroom turn into discussions and professors with true passion are at the top of their game. (Football). For example, if your income is <60K a yr, USC will offer you something like 40K grant. (COA is something like 58K) But if you use your resources wisely and plan accordingly, ~~~~~~~~~~~40K + some outside scholarships (LAgrant) and some UNSUBSIDIZED loans (gov’t pays interest while you are in school) could squeeze you by!! Historically, USC has graduated some of the brightest minds and its Alumni Network is Amazing! Learn what it means to be a trojan (true trojan) at University of Southern California
