Words of Wisdom from W&M Admission: News & Updates for the '13-'14 Application Cycle

@tree27, no doubt as the deadline approached, the Common App site was overloaded with traffic. Please try again today to submit writing supplement (sounds like you already submitted your app which is the most important thing). If you continue to encounter trouble, contact the Common App help desk but we will gladly accept components that are submitted in the next few days.

Hello,
I have a question about sending SAT IIs. Would it be or could it be beneficial to send them? If I have them, would it be better to send or not send? Does it make any difference? If it doesn’t make a difference, could I send them? I know that you do not require them and such, so I am just curious. Thank you!

@myyeartoapply, if you choose to send your SAT IIs we will certainly see them. You’re right, they’re not required. If they’re very strong it can’t hurt to show us more strength right? However, if you choose not to send them it’s also fine. We really don’t have an opinion on optional components like SAT IIs…it’s up to the student which optional components they wish to take advantage of and share with us.

I know that you prefer Calc to Sats, but does that mean Ab or BC? I am currently in AB as a junior and plan to take Stats next year. I am doing so because I want to major in kinesiology and you need Stats.

Also, I have been researching essay topics and have found some very creative ones I love. For instance, “10 years ago I was a spy”. If i use a topic that has already been done, but use my own experience is that seen poorly in your eyes?

Thanks!!!

@annakc96, either Calc BC or AP Stats would be okay for your senior year. Keep in mind that you may still need to take stats at W&M depending on how you do on the AP exam.

Remember, the Common App provides the essay prompts; not us. So you should likely wait until their prompts for next year are available and then consider topics.

Hello, I was wondering if William and Mary has an application status check website because I was never sent one?

One more thing, when would you approximate the release date for regular decisions to be?

@MassaSenior, we don’t have a website but we email you and your parents when we download your application from Common App and when we complete it and send it out for review. Please check the email address listed in your Common App and its spam/junk folders for these emails.

We release decisions by April 1.The exact time/date cannot be predicted in advance because there are so many moving parts to our process. We won’t know we’re ready to release decisions until that moment arrives. We will update all social media when decisions are released.

Are all decisions released at the same time or in batches? all by email correct? Thanks

W&M Admissions: can you confirm that everyone who gets rejected will also be notified at the same time as those accepted?

@woods1234 - The Admit It! Blog from WM is the best thing that I have seen through out my D’s application process. Though we do not have a web portal here for applicants, at none of the other colleges my D has applied have I seen this level of clarity about the entire process. Here is a link that describes the process from 2013 March and I would think the same process applies for our kids.

WM - keep up this excellent blog. If we get such updates, we dont need a portal.

@heycall123 and @woods1234, we email decisions to all applicants, regardless of decision and for the most part, all applicants here on the same day. We did mail decisions to scholarship recipients last week. That however is a very small cohort of our admits. We will post here when we release Regular Decision results.

@ParentofD96, so glad the blog has been helpful!

@ParentofD96: thank you for the pointer to the blog.

Our admission decisions are in the process of being emailed. Our Decisions, Decisions blog (http://blogs.wm.edu/2014/03/26/decisions-decisions-2014-regular-decision-edition/</a>) explains all the logistics and has an accompanying blog for each decision we send. Best of luck to all!

Hey guys! I applied RD and haven’t received my admissions decision. I sent the admissions staff an email yesterday asking why I haven’t been notified and they said they would re-send the decision… I have yet to receive that email. Anyone else in the same boat?

I am confused because I was waitlisted, but yesterday I received the package of postcards that said W&M was interested in my brain. I had received these before too. Was this a mistake? I already released my spot on the waitlist…

@claremaryanne, we resent decisions via email after 5:00pm every day. If you still didn’t receive an email you will receive a hard copy in the mail (we send that along with any resent decision) just to ensure you get it if our email can’t get through to you.

@guineagirl96, we haven’t mailed out any ampersandboxes since December so we have no idea how you could have gotten those yesterday. Can you PM us with your name so we can investigate why that happened?

Interview registration for the summer is live. Any interested rising high school senior can register online for an optional on-campus interview conducted by a W&M senior. This is a great chance to add a three-dimensional aspect to your application and to meet one-on-one with a current W&M student. http://www.wm.edu/admission/interview</a></p>

Will the College of William and Mary be utilizing their waitlist this year? Thank you.

@Saintofme, we plan to post a waitlist update via our blog late this week so check that for all the latest info.
