I plan on submitting my ACT, so I only took subject tests to supplement my application (and put me on a level playing field with SAT takers. I'm very pleased with my chem score, 790, but I got a disappointing 760 on math 2. I'm thinking about going into engineering (bio/chem) and plan on applying to Duke, WashU, and Rice for sure. What I'm worried about is that the 760 might hurt me, since it's not a super impressive score given the math 2 curve. I don't really want to waste the time/money just to retake one subject test. Is it worth submitting my math score, or should I just submit chem? Subject tests aren't usually required for ACT takers so I'm just taking them to boost my app. I certainly don't want them to think I'm weak at math because of an optional test! Thanks for any input!

Wondering the same thing

Personally, I think that there’s no need for you to retake anything. Those scores are fine. For Subject Tests, once you get above 750 all scores carry the same weight. An admissions official won’t care about those couple extra points you may or may not gain from a retake since you’re already so far up there. Save yourself a Saturday and go do something more impressive like volunteer.

Thanks for the response! I’m glad I at least broke the 750 mark. I ommited 7 questions (subject tests were a rather last minute decision for me) so I regret not doing any prep other than one practice test. I just don’t want to hurt my application with a mediocre score.

I had a friend get into BME at Stanford with a similar score on Math 2: 770. I think it’s definitely worth sending.

Thank you ybrown, that makes me feel a lot more confident about my score!
