Would it be terrible if....

I want to pursue a degree in public health studies but in my letter of rec, my teacher emphasized my desire to be a nurse?? And JHU doesnt have a direct nursing program for freshman. I plan on majoring in public health and going on to an accelerated program for nursing afterwards.

No, it would not be terrible. While there are relatively few Hopkins undergraduates who go on to become nurses, it is not unheard of. I know of at least one student who went on to Johns Hopkins School of Nursing after two years at Homewood. If this is your career goal, I wouldn’t try to hide it but would tout it proudly. Nursing at Hopkins is a well-respected profession, even though far more students are interested in becoming physicians than nurses. It might even make you stand out as an applicant, since few other applicants will share those career goals.

That is not terrible at all! As the poster above me alluded to, Hopkins has a great and very rigorous nursing school. Also, I believe they have a special program for public health nursing, if you are interested in that.

I was a public health major, and also went to Bloomberg after undergrad, and we had nurses give lectures and join our classes pretty frequently, FWIW.

We always need more nurses!
