Would someone please read my essay?

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much for reading, please leave a comment; I would really like some feedback and grading.

"Can success be disastrous?"

Success can certainly have detrimental consequences. This belief is extend throughout our world in literature and history. Although success is normally associated with completion and fulfilment, often the converse can be the result.

This is clearly demonstrated in Wharton's novel Ethan Frome. In the narrative the protagonist, Frome, and his lover finally, after much deliberation, decide to announce their engagement. But this happy event is soured by the townspeople disallowing the couple to marry. Crestfallen, Frome and his lover commit suicide together so that they will always be together. This tale is a prime example of success carrying with it detrimental consequences. After succeeding in courting his lover, Frome suffers from the reactions of the people in such a negative way that to escape the consequences, the couple kills themselves.

History has also provided many examples of this; Galileo, a great scientist, made incredible discoveries in his time. He, along with other scientists in his age, lay the foundations for modern science yet along with his success also came consequences. On the announcement that the earth rotated around the sun the catholic church had him kill for treachery. Even though this was later deemed correct at the time Galileo had to suffer the consequences of a revelatory success, essential to man's understanding.

Furthermore, in the book A Rumor Of War the main character succeeded by surviving the Vietnam war but is left scarred by the atrocities he witnessed and the killing that took place by his hand. Even though he succeeded by living he still has to suffer the effects of the trauma he suffered while serving, effecting him the rest of his life.

After analysis of Ethan Frome, Galileo and A Rumor of War, one can clearly see the success can, indeed, be shattered and result in such dire consequences that the negative result often out weights the "success". While all these examples experiences success in some form they where also affected by the consequences of that success.

Thanks so much!

Anyone, please?
