Would you go to a 7:45 am class to get the better teacher?

I have the option of going to a 9:15 class (requiring me to wake up at 6:30 am... I commute) with a somewhat lousy teacher, or an 7:45 am class (requiring me to wake up at 4:45 am) for a better teacher. What would you do? Those are the only 2 classes available.

How did you find out that they are the better professor? That can make a huge difference in the way I vote. If it is from rate my professors, take it with a grain of salt. If it is from people that had them a few years back, realize that things change and new and better ones come along. If it is from students that you personally know that had them within the past year or so, you need to consider what type of student they are and WHY they think they are so great.

Based off of some students that attended the school and took that class more than 2 years ago, I heard this guy was great. The older ratings on rate my professor were also good. I chose to have an 8am because of the "better" teacher. I think it was a huge mistake. I have such a hard time getting up in time for it and then I'm so out of it and he isn't a good professor at all.

Only if he/she is a VERY easy grader and have a reputation as such.

I will.....

Well I had the better professor once before, and she was alright... she assigned too much work but graded so easily (I swear that she doesn't even look at anything that we pass in) that I got an A. EVERY person that I've spoken to that had a different professor said that they either 1) dropped their class hoping to get into one with my professor, or 2) were failing and ready to kill themselves from the stress of the course. So that's why I'm like "hmmmm.... do I take someone who is just alright over someone who will likely induce suicidality in me?"

Would you go to a 7:45 AM class to get a better teacher? Of course, since this is the perfect excuse to stay up all night and party.(As you don't want to be late to class.)

no .

90 minutes won't make much of a difference anyways. Go for the better teacher and put your alarm in a place where you can't reach it from your bed.

I'm a natural night owl so that'd just be unhealthy for me. I rather have the more lousy teacher (as long as they aren't downright evil- then I just wouldn't take the class.)

I personally wouldn't rely on getting up before 5 am on a regular basis unless I really had to. That is, unless the 7:45 teacher is amazing (i.e. I would enjoy his/her classes more than two hours of sleep) or the 9:15 teacher is evil.

YES , I think the professor is the most important factor in college, because it determines how much work you put into the class.

No need to get up "before 5"...NOBODY does much more than put on a pair of pants for classes before 9am! Com'on! You can do your hair, makeup, eyeliner and shower during the break after your first class!

most of you obviously aren't in college ...

Dude, trust me, you do want to get ready. I get up at 7-730 every morning monday thru thursday for a 930 class. Shower, brush teeth, check weather, get ready, brush hair, get breakfast. Takes an hour, and I'm a guy. I can totally understand a girl getting up at 5am for a 930. NOBODY here shows up to class in pjs, or not looking immaculate.

god no.. getting up at 4:45 and having to commute to class woud suck more than anything i could imagine in college. i wont even think about scheduling classes before 10:00, i just go to bed too late for it to make sense. i think if the professor is THAT GOOD and hte subject is your major. or if the 9:15 professor is just that bad.

i have to get up at 6:30 monday and friday mornings to work in a school and it kills me/hangs over my head constantly. ruins my friday nights cause im so tired too

Well I have 8 am classes 3 days a week, but the difference is I live on campus, lol. But under your circumstances (commuting), I would not, unless the teachers are either AMAZINGLY good or INSANELY bad.

How many days a week is it? My son used ratemyprofessor.com to do his schedule and that meant 5 classes in a row on Wednesdays. I asked him if it was worth it and he said, "Yes, the teachers are all pretty good."

I think taking the better prof can make a huge difference -- in your enjoyment, in your learning, and in your grade. Do you have a friend on campus you can stay with the night before the class? Getting up at 7:00 is a heck of a lot different than getting up at 4:45.

i would take the better teacher, just know it's gonna be really painful waking up that early. i can barely wake up for my 9:00 class.

Either that or freshmen who, coming straight out of high school, still don't think that waking up for an 8 am is that bad (maybe as a defense mechanism?). I remember I had 3 8AMs per week as a freshman, and although I didn't like it, I didn't that it was horrible.

Now, however, I have to say "NO". No 8AMs. Never again. The memories still haunt me.
