Wrath of UCSD strikes again...

UCSD and its ridiculous AP policy...Well a question about it. If you have a 5 on the AP Bio exam, can you still take BILD1? I REALLY dont wanna use AP credit for a science course.

I got a 5 on the calc BC, and they wouldnt let me take 20b...morons.

How are they morons? That is what AP Credit is, it exempts you from the class you already took. Why did you take the AP test, if you didn't want the credit in college?

I know, tell me about it! Don't tell me you spent all that money on those tests because you thought it would be fun...

Why don't you want credit for a science Biology course?

yes, they're complete morons just like the rest of u.s. colleges. you realize that 99% of colleges have this little policy where ap scores of 5's get credit for equivalent college courses, so gosh, harvard...stanford...yale...they're all full of crazy morons. /sarcasm.

if you wanted to not go to to moronic school, why not just go to berkeley (if you got accepted) because they force all of their premeds to take g.chem over so i'm sure you could just take bio over as well

uhh wow...

I dont want to retake Bio cuz i FEEL like it. Maybe because my future schools require me to retake it? Yeah, UCSD is a moron for forcing it. I took this AP test way back when I didnt even know what i was gonna pursue. Plus my teacher raises everyone's grade if they got a 5. So you guys must be clueless on why people take ap exams.

Oh, and what school, might I ask, REQUIRES you to take Bild1???

Maybe like every med school. They dont REQUIRE BILD1 specifically... but they STRONGLY RECOMMEND retaking bio. As a science major, bio will be one of the foundations for all the upper level classes. You want me to rely on my HIGH SCHOOL knowledge of biology from 2 years ago and take upper level bio at UCSD? .....

^^ plenty of people have done so and they've done extremely well. your 5 doesn't get you out of BILD 3, so you can always have your taste of lower division biology there. BILD uses the campbell book which you probably used in ap biology anyway.

if you wanted to retake bio for credit, you should have blocked your scores from being sent through the cb. but it's probably too late for that now.

Um... yes! You should have LEARNED stuff from your AP classes. I know I did. Don't blame UCSD policies for your lack of preparation or unwillingness to work hard in an upper-division class.

Wow talk about UCSD fanboy-ism

Of course I learned from that class. Don't tell me I dont want to work hard in an upper division. Retaking a COLLEGE level bio class would give a better foundation to more advanced courses. I didnt ask for your opinion or critique. My question was pretty simple - it's still in my first post if you care to look.

Its not fanboyism, its being annoyed at annoying people making stupid posts and complaining about things that aren't worth complaining about. Why complain about policies?? They aren't going to change. Just ask the question.

And, out of the kindness of my gracious heart, I will answer. You cannot retake any classes for credit if you have transferred equivalent classes or gotten credit from AP. However, as a professor once told me, any regulation at the school can be overturned if you petition to administration. In many cases, though, its almost too difficult to bother.

The policy seems pretty fair to me. You shouldn't be allowed to get AP Bio credit and get more credit by taking BILD 1, just like you shouldn't be allowed to take the same class over and over again at UCSD to amass units or raise GPA.

you also realize that if tons of people do what you want to do, OP, then it would wreck havoc for every pre-med who wants to retake classes. all of your lower division pre-med requirements will become godforesakenly competitive and it'd be terribly unfair for someone who truly wants to be a doctor, studies hard and yet cannot compete with the half of the class who took the class before in high school.

Great. This just got confusing. BewareofNerd said that I can't retake BILD1...but I just got a response from an Orientation leader through e-advising who says that I can take BILD1 next quarter. Man...this is confusing.

^It's quite possible that random people on CC who cannot be held accountable for their advice can be wrong.

^ It's also quite possible that advisers who are held accountable for their advice are wrong as well.

^I'd say that the chances of an adviser that can be held accountable being right are higher than the chances of a random person on CC being right. I'd also say that it's better to follow the advice of someone who can be held accountable if their advice is wrong.

^I'd say Filabusta is totally bringing the "pwnge." OOPS that was slang. Everybody come to my house tomorrow at noon for a complimentary party I'm holding as an apology.

^ I'd say that "an Orientation leader" is hardly an adviser, merely a second or third year student. I'd also say that if I trusted those advisers every time I asked a question, I'd have the most messed up schedule ever and the most disorganized, inefficient summer to date. Information on an official website (not professor's personal site or student blog) is accurate and has never failed me. Go with the AP credit list.
