Writing Competitions BESIDES Scholastic?

I won an honorable mention for a short story I wrote for Scholastic A&W. I probably could have gotten a silver key, but in the last 30 minutes before it was due I changed a bunch of stuff and made some major syntactical errors. So my question is this: what other prestigious writing awards exist besides Scholastic A&W about short stories?

hmm…

Are you looking for only competitions that have short story categories, or are you open to any kind of writing? Most of the ones I know are poetry.

both might work :)

The Claremont Review.

@arwarw Isn’t that a summer camp as opposed to a competition?

@halcyonheather Seems interesting… what is the competition level?

Hi there! Maybe you could look into the Concord Review? It’s geared towards essays on historical topics, though. Apparently a lot of kids who get published go on to top-tier schools…I wish I’d known about it earlier, haha. Best of luck!
