Yale 2015 SCEA Hopefuls

Lucy, my links aren’t broken… I’m showing Jersey how there aren’t any direct references to “superscore” or “super score” on CollegeBoard’s website.

I think Yale is trying to say that they do superscore, but at times viewing an applicant’s entire testing history can give the admissions office more understanding on the applicant’s testing abilities. Let’s say that there is a student who naturally struggles with standardized testing. By seeing all of that student’s tests, the university knows that even though the student has problems, he/she has drive based off of his/her growth over time.

Hi Guys, sorry I’m late to this. I’m going to apply SCEA as well!

Sorry to diverge from the topic, but when does the Yale supplement come out? Most of my other schools already have theirs up (via the Common App website).

It comes out on September 1st. It says so on the school website.

Wow i’ll be applying RD.
I won’t be posting my stats. It’ll prolly be a rejection.

Thanks- you’re right, I probably do need to look around at the Yale web site a bit more =)

you know what… after thinking about it a little, I don’t think I’m going to apply early to Yale. It’s definitely my first choice, but the SCEA is gonna be tough haha.

Also having second thoughts about SCEA… but I predict that I’ll end up doing it anyway, “for the hell of it.”

ahhhh im applying to SCEA! although after i visited yale last week idk if engineering is still my top choice ><
im starting to doubt my desire to commit my soul to engineering and academics during college

^ haha I know exactly how you feel

Do you guys know how this deal about sending in the application first and then the test scores works?

well you self report your test scores on the common app, but you gotta officially send your scores through collegeboard.com

I think I just might have to withdraw myself from this thread. Yale’s not even my first choice (Columbia is) and the only reason I was applying SCEA was because I had serious reservations about the binding nature of ED. I’ve been thinking that applying Columbia ED is obviously the smartest thing to do in terms of chances. I’m posting the link to my chance thread. Could you guys advise me on what to do?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/974381-very-difficult-decision-columbia-ed-yale-scea.html

^ If you don’t want to be in a binding agreement, don’t apply ED.

Hey, quick question - if you submit your Common Application by the Nov 1st deadline in order to be on time for Yale SCEA, does that mean you can’t change/update your application/essays for the other schools you’re applying RD too? How does it work?

They don’t encourage it, but it can be done by creating a new version of your SCEA-submitted application and submitting that to your later schools. From the Common App instructions:

To see details on how to do this, read the section called Application Versions on the Common App Instructions page (available once you have created an account.)

I’m pretty sure you have to make an alternate version of your application to send applications to more schools after a submission. Go to commonapp.org, find the knowledge base, click on popular application questions, then select alternate versions.

Oops! Just realized that Descartesz already answered the question.

I’m applying SCEA to Yale as well. I’m not crazy about my chances, but it’s the only school that I’m applying to that offers a non-binding early admissions plan, aside from Binghamton. I’ll be applying there early as well, since Yale makes an exception for in-state public schools. I may well be rejected off the bat, but it’s worth a shot. It’s not my unequivocal top choice, although I did love it when I visited.
