Yale Class of 2017 RD Discussion thread

yes!! northwestern stanford (deferred ea) berkeley and yale… this waiting is ridiculous!! where else did you all apply?

I am going insane! Anyone else here apply through QuestBridge? I feel like I have been waiting to hear back from colleges since I started sending in applications in September/October.

I applied to Yale (duh), Stanford, Rice, Columbia, USC, UPortland (accepted + Presidential schol.), UOregon/honors college (accepted + Presidential schol.).

I just want TO KNOW! Two more weeks. Spring Break is the last week of March for me and I won’t even be in town. :(

@cariacsurgeon, are you by any chance from Oregon? If so, it’s nice to know I’m not the only applicant from the great Northwest  (well, I guess I already knew that, but still).

And yes, the wait these past few weeks has felt extremely long. Best of luck, though, everybody!

My friend only applied to Yale (dream school) and Princeton. He didn’t get Princeton so if he doesn’t get Yale either, he will be a high school valedictorian in community college

^ Why would ANYONE do that, knowing how random college admissions are?

That is incredibly risky and kind of idiotic. Feel free to tell your friend I said that.

HighSchoolAsian, your friend probably applied to other schools, but only told you about Princeton and Yale. He may have wanted to appear more confident by only talking about his reach schools. Unless you have personally seen your friends’ common app and can attest to the veracity of your friend’s claims, you should probably just assume he applied to more schools (just like everyone else).

Friend sounds like a high school valedictorian with no sense, too.

I don’t think he did apply to other schools. Even though he is book smart, he has no common sense. Most people think he is stupid as a first impression.

Ouch. That’s pretty harsh, highschoolasiandude.

I’m from the Northwest! And same… The. Wait. Is. Killing. Me.

@LeiaOrgana- ohman you must be brilliant  From where you’ve gotten in, I mean. That’s amazing; what do you want to major in (if you don’t mind me asking)? Serious kudos on everything you’ve achieved so far!

@ Adodie-
Yes, I am from the great ol Northwest. My hope is that Yale might consider that “diverse” since I am not from the East Coast… heh heh.

My friend applied to an in-state school and Yale, but she declined the chance for an interview! I know the interviews aren’t make-it-or-break it, but I still wouldn’t decline the offer. My interview was two hours of driving away and I had to show up after just running a half marathon  I am hoping that sets me apart too.

You really shouldn’t have gone through the trouble. The interview seriously is not a big deal at all.

The interview isn’t necessary, but it can be such a great experience. My interview for yale was amazing. My interviewer was really helpful with the whole applying to college process and give a lot of advice since he was recently in my shoes. He even asked all the schools I applied to and gave me a descriptive idea of what they’re like from his knowledge since many of his friends and family members had attended them. I feel like the interview is more for the applicant than for the school itself.

@satellitemind You’re right. In fact my Harvard interviewer advised me to apply to Stanford, which I wasn’t going to apply to, but I did after that. :P

Thanks Waiting17, I am planning to major in psychology.

@LeiaOrgana, you’re welcome :slight_smile:

Anyone else want to talk about extracurriculars at Yale while we wait? I mean, it’s well known that the student body is mostly intensely involved and that campus life is always buzzing, but I was wondering if anyone has heard of any cool clubs or events! And does anyone know about their dance teams/troupes- like whether you have to have any experience…whether they’d let in someone with two left feet…

@waiting17, the Yale Political Union sounds really awesome to me. It seems like one of the most vibrant groups of its type, from what I can gather.

So, in a sense, I am new to CC. In other words, I just registered, but I have been following these forums for years. I try to stay positive, but this process we are all going through certainly has its ups and downs, and lately I’m feeling very stressed. Okay, let’s be honest. I’m super stressed. I am sure this is a weight we are all enduring, and hopefully we are all very dedicated to the universities we applied to. I just figured it might help immensely to officially be a part of this community as the time runs down and decisions start rolling in. Speaking of which, can anyone confirm whether Yale releases decisions @ 5 pm EST? Thanks a bunch, and best of luck. And congratulations to those who experienced EA success. You deserve it, I’m sure.

I got accepted into Yale but I am also looking at Boston University because I play hockey and it would be a lot cheaper for my family to go there. What about you, any advice?
