Yale Class of 2027 Official Thread

no.? i have award letters for school i was already waitlisted from and won’t be getting off the waitlist/declined their waitlist. and there’s plenty of people who had rejection letters yet still have award dates on their css profile. it doesn’t mean anything. yes, looking for these signs helps with coping, but these signs are also just illogical and more stressful. its human’s natural desire to create order out of meaningless situations to help cope with stressful situations, and this is what’s happening. it’s just a coping mechanism and not logical. we’ll just have to wait a few more weeks!

To speculate aswell we need to be logical and discussion on the award date is just wrong.

About 3-4 people on Reddit reported getting a SID-email (a 100% guarantee of admission since it’s given ONLY to admitted students) without the verification statement.

Safe to say, the verification statement means nothing.

What does the email say in which you get an SID?

Friendly reminder to everyone that if you’re not missing materials, they won’t have a reason to email you and therefore won’t get an SID. So don’t worry if you haven’t!

On the CSS profile Dashboard it says “the award letter date is the approximate date that your colleges start to send financial aid award letters. You may not hear from a college before then. In general, students must be admitted to the college before awards are determined.” So to me it sounds like the award letter date is a very generic piece of information that applies to the school as a whole.

You all need to relax.

  1. Verification of Household Information is exactly what it states - verification of your household information to double check for any discrepancies. Many people who applied for financial aid received this. People who didn’t apply for financial aid obviously didn’t. It does not indicate anything.

  2. Award date on CSS Profile website means nothing. I have schools that rejected me with the dates showing, and schools that accepted me without the award date showing.

  3. Everyone has a SID. Everyone has a student ID number. It is just not released to you until you receive admission because why would you need it? Sometimes financial aid includes it on their emails for their sake. The same thing was done to me for another school and I was still rejected.

Everyone please just take a breathe. Decisions are coming in about 16 days. You just gotta hold on a bit more. I get you’re excited, but breathe.

And there were kids who got SID#s and didnt get in. Nothing is a guarantee. On the Yale podcast they said there have been instances where a week to a few days before, they had to remove applicants from the admit pile for various reasons that were of no fault of the applicant. The best thing to do is not think about being admitted until March 30th at 7pm and then - what a beautiful suprise it will be if the Bulldog video pops up. If these rumors keep circulating about SIDs, and Verification Statements and what not, kids are going to be absoluitely CRUSHED if things dont go the way college confidential portal astrology has deemed them to go. Very silly to assume anything at this point.

Yes, one of the four undergraduate colleges at the Ivy League Columbia University. Four years later, all of them graduate together from Columbia U.

Except that in the context of the question, CSS profile info updates are not an indication of admission, ivy-or-not.

I don’t think it means anything because I have an award letter date from a school I got deferred from and another I ended up not even applying to!

https://finaid.org/fafsa/verification/
So here’s a website discussing what the verification means. And there’s other websites as well if y’all look up “FAFSA Verification”
The sites say that for the 2023 academic year, FAFSA is randomly selecting students to verify their data, either through the IRQ retrieval tools form or the verificationform. It’s all random. This shows the verification form is not indicative of an acceptance–it’s just something that FAFSA requires and randomly selects of students .

Nope, only next to non ivies

i just received a personal email from a financial aid officer requesting more documents… but I keep hearing that the FA office at Yale makes financial aid packages for everyone regardless of admission status?

That is fine. But I’m an international student who is prohibited from filling the FAFSA. And I still got that document requested. And I know quite a few (like 10?) Internationals who have that doc.

If it is a federal verification for FAFSA, why ask internationals??

Second this^

What sort of documents were you requested? Did the email contain an SID number?

So why do I have the verification form despite having already used the IRS data retrieval?

I also used the data retrieval tool and received a request for this form.
