In my letter with my ID to access decisions it stated that I would not be receiving an interview. However, tonight a man telephoned my house stating that New Haven contacted him, and they would like to know more about me. Has anyone had this happen? Does this mean that Yale is interested or does it just mean that they picked people to interview? I don't have amazing stats with AP's and stuff as I got a 30 on my ACT and have taken mostly college classes instead of AP's. What do you think the significance of the call and interview will be? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Are you a recruited athlete or URM?

No, white male...I'm a cross country runner, and in one of my essays I put that I would like to be a walk on. I'm not sure of the times of the runners at Yale, but I'm sure I would of had to qualify to state and I missed out on that even.

In that case, don't attach any meaning to it. I think the initial message that no interview was possible may have been sent too early and that an interviewer's time opened up or your area got a new interviewer.

AdmissionsAddict, is it true that interviews are always given to either all or none of the applicants in an area? (ie, if they can't provide it to all applicants then they won't give interviews to any in that area)

Mallomar--I've never heard that. In my area, it's first come, first served, so if we run out of interviewers then not everyone gets an interview. I think Yale tries to interview as many applicants as possible, but there is a limit based on volunteer time and geographical distribution.

Well I called the interviewer back today, and he actually came to my house today for the interview as well....It went very well...Very very well lol...So who knows the significance of it, but the more significance the better. He even gave me his home number in case I had any more questions. I told him that he could tell New Haven that I wouldn't be too upset if they let me know the admissions decision a little early :)

What if i am unable to interview due to vacation or premade plans? that would not harm my record would it? could i phone interview?

Your interviewer will try to find a time that you are available. You've got until February 15 to interview and I'm assuming you have at least a little free time in there. Not having an interview does not harm your record, although if you are offered an interview and are unwilling to compromise on a time to meet there might be a note to that effect that goes in your file.

Is there a thread over what sorts of questions are asked?

Yes, check out AdmissionAddict's very helpful and eloquent Interview thread.
