anyone knows if yalenus accepts AP credit as course waiver??
Did you guys all get Skype friend request messages from Yale-NUS yet?
Guys I was shortlisted a week or so ago, and I realized tonight that I have not sent them my test scores, nor have I submitted my “Why Yale NUS” essay. What do you think it means that I still got shortlisted? should i just send them that stuff now?
@mayajumbalaya I would definitely send in your test scores ASAP, but the “Why Yale-NUS” essay is optional.
Hey y’all,
Do you guys think they are still sending out interview requests?
Best,
@Spicykins Yeah thanks, I did the minute I realized my mistake!
and @ajsdaksjdn I don’t think so, sorry
@ajsdaksjdn I think it’s pretty late for them to be sending out shortlist notifications for Round 2, but if you applied for Round 3, that’s very probable.
Got a mail from the interviewer post interview asking me to be on the look out on 21st March for Round 2 decisions. Is this regular or I should start counting my chickens ?
@aridelhi I got one too! I think it’s standard procedure though, so I wouldn’t get my hopes up. Crossing my fingers though!
I have my interview tomorrow. Any tips?
So I just got an invite for an interview (shortlist) TODAY–February 18–at around 1 PM EST for a Round 2 application. I had basically lost all hope since I turned in my app more than a month ago and everyone seems to have gotten their requests already, but I guess I’m not totally out of the running (knock on wood)
Just had my interview. Definitely the coolest interview I’ve had yet
My interview is in two days. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!
Hey @DVDplayer , I just finished my interview. It was pretty good - no surprises, and the same kinds of questions you would get from other college interviews. One question threw me off though - “Since you would be studying abroad while attending this college, how would you plan to build a community of friends at Yale-NUS?”
Other than that, good luck!
@DVDplayer I agree with others. It’s very friendly and casual. My interviewer asked me about my favourite classes, how I would bring about particular changes in my school, what is something that I would love to do on a free weekend, etc. It’s probably the best interview you’ll have. No cliched questions, not even why Yale-NUS?!
Best of luck!
^ I actually got a “Why Yale-NUS?” question, haha xP But I agree - definitely very friendly and casual
thank you @bettyxyp88 @anotherdude
The shortlist thingy is complete bullsh*t people! literally 99% of the NUS applicants on college confidential threads have been invited for one. I think its just a tactic to preserve and proliferate applicants’ interest in the college by making them labor under the delusion that they’re in that “select” bunch, since most students who applied didn’t even know a thing called Yale-NUS actually existed until they saw it on the Yale application.
Try not to get your hopes up. We are not in the select crowd. Not yet atleast.
@rahuilmars231 I wouldn’t disagree with you, but you have to concede that most people writing on this thread care about getting into Yale-NUS. Students who applied to Yale-NUS for the sake of it wouldn’t waste their time discussing a college that they don’t have any interest in, hence 99% of the people on Yale-NUS thread were asked for an interview. It may not be about the percentage of people, it may be more about their aspirations.
Secondly, considering the number of applicants they receive, don’t you think it would take a lot of time and effort for them to interview EVERYONE. In 2012, Yale-NUS’s first year, they had an acceptance rate of less than 4%. Isn’t that insane for a college outside the US, which is enrolling for the first time. The fact is that Yale-NUS receives a lot more applicants than they can admit, partly because a lot of students apply through their Yale applications on common app. The point I’m trying to make is that Yale-NUS receives a lot of applicants and I don’t think they would interview so many applicant when they can only take about 200.
On a side note, I do agree that there is nothing to be excited about being asked for an interview because getting into this college is TOUGH.
@rahuilmars231 @DVDplayer
Actually I disagree with you. In a lot of US schools, receiving an interview really means little and carries no weight. However, for Yale NUS it specifically means you got shortlisted. In fact, a couple of my classmates did not receive interviews. Furthermore, I’m pretty positive that your interview actually plays a role in the decision for Yale NUS. All of our interviewers are actually people on the admissions team, rather than simple alumni.
Obviously, getting in is still really hard, and an interview doesn’t guarantee an acceptance. However, the interviews definitely carry more weight than those of other US schools.
