Yale Young Global Scholars 2017

Hello, all, I’m new here. Good to meet you!

Has anyone been accepted yet/has experience/have any tips on writing the essays? Also on the application stuff to put in general. I’m kind of worried about how I’ll fare. It also seems like it’s preferential to be some kind of super star at a specific thing, and I’m not sure if I border on being a jack of all trades or am inadequate. Ideas or advice?

@Rich123456 Also I can’t speak for certain because, duh, but I don’t think so, in that submitting early as possible is probably sacrificial to the quality of your application and won’t exactly gain you a big edge. However, I do think it’s better to get it done earlier, and to not submit the day it’s due or anything.

Hi everyone  I am new here, and I have already started my application to YYGS 2017 PLE. Unfortunately, I don’t have any scores of tests to attach simply because I’m not from USA or an English speaking country. I guess I just have to hope my “achievements” will help me qualify which might be hard :(.
Honestly my achievements focus mostly on international stuff rather than anything strictly educational

Hey everyone!
YYGS 2016 IAS Alumn here! I’m also applying for PLE this year. @siroscarwilde submitting it early is not going to make a difference on the decision. I made a post on last year’s YYGS thread about essay and app tips, so feel free to check it out! Also, I agree with @tomatox1 YYGS isn’t going to contribute to your chances of getting in Yale or any other ivy, but keep in mind everyone who goes to the program are all really good, and these people usually get into great schools. In other words, this program doesn’t necessarily help you in college apps, but being in the program proves that you, by everything else you do and what got you in, are qualified and have a good chance of attending ivys.

Thanks, @annie4564! Do you mind linking the thread from last year?

@siroscarwilde
You’re welcome!

I haven’t even started my essays yet… XD. I’ll probably end up submitting my application at 11:38 on January 31.

@Kastelano LOL omg really? I bet you’re one of those people who can apply last minute and still get in  I’ve been editing my essays for the past few months omg, and I’m still so nervous I won’t get in…

@annie4564 Sorry to bother again, and you can disclose as little or as much information as you want, but I’m having trouble with my “what do people not know that you think they should” essay. I’m not exactly sure what is being looked for here–I noticed you said something about playing songs on display costco pianos. Not sure if an activity is how to go? Personality trait? I can see it going both ways, but basically, I’m just not sure what direction to point this in.

Actually, I’ve figured it out moments after posting my inquiry, but any words of advice are still appreciated.

Hey guys, I am applying for YYGS as well. I have my eyes set on the Frontiers of math and science section, it’s probably new this year. I am an international student having no standardized test scores other than IELTS, which is the measurement meter of my English skill. I have decent ECA’s, but not international recognitions as I never got the chance to participate in any. YYGS sounds like a pretty good opportunity to me, spending the summer doing this. So should I still apply in spite of having no international achievements?

@yayaylearner That’s awesome! I haven’t started my app yet LOL
@siroscarwilde My advice is to just be as quirky as possible. I wrote my essay as a list form, but it’s really up to you. What makes you unique? Write about that. These essays are really open ended; you can really shape anything you want to fit the prompt, so it’s okay if it’s a little off. Just make sure you generally reference the prompt though.

Hi everyone! Is anyone here applying for the Sustainable Development & Social Entrepreneurship program?

hey y’all! I just submitted my application a few days ago…now it’s time for the wait    I hope I don’t have to wait till the end of the March to hear about the decisions like last year…

btw…does anyone know whether it’s a good idea to update YYGS on any new awards, or extracurricular stuff I’ve been accepted to?

Whew! just submitted my application, though my rec letters are still not in. do they still accept late rec letters?

Submitted!

^^^ Same, turned in my app a few days ago. Now for the wait! :stuck_out_tongue:

Hey guys!! Does anyone want to talk about their essays or stats? I just hate waiting…

haha I know exactly how you’re feeling, but tbh there’s nothing we can do at this point other than wait. Regardless of how any one of our stats are, I don’t think it will make much of a difference discussing it considering we never know what the admissions committee is looking for. I’m sure there are others on this forum who would want to talk about their stats and essays though which I also get why
