Should I retake the SAT with these scores?
overall I got an 1800.
math - 660
reading - 530 :(
writing - 610 (essay -10)

My overall gpa for all 3 years (I'm going to be a senior so this would be my last chance) is 4.06.

I'm looking to get into a UC and I've heard that the colleges aren't that big into SAT's now and they are looking more towards gpa and ec. Any suggestions?

Just because they're not into SAT scores that much anymore, it's still a definite factor. They're saying that if you have an 1800, it's no different to them than a 1820 or 1850--it's not the tie-breaker between you and that other person with a couple extra points.

If you've taken it a few times already, stop now, but if not, then it would be better to show the colleges that you have the want to improve yourself. Take a course and retake it, I say. Come on, I mean, you're getting a 10 on the essay--you know how to write. I think you can definitely do better on the grammar section. Make some SAT word flashcards as well, and you can raise your score for sure.

I'm sure if you invested 30 mins- 60 mins a day for taking practice tests and reviewing your answers you can probably raise your scores quite nicely.

You really think it's worth a retake? Another four hours of a Saturday morning taking a stupid test? Retaking it won't make a difference since your GPA is not so great.

hahaha a 4.06 isn't that great? you're out of your mind kid.

First off how many times have you taken it? If you've already taken it 3 times, don't retake but 1 or 2 times, I would definitely retake. I mean what do you have to lose? 4 hours on a Saturday? Trust me, you'll regret it if you get rejected from your dream school because you thought you had something better to do on that Saturday.

yeah i scored similarly as you (math-690 cr-520 :( :( writing-600) . yeah...as you can see cr is obviously NOT my strong point and I desperately need to improve it by oct. but yeah, i would retake it if i were you and gl
