You CCers are so smart.

Same here, I am not considered the smartest in my class (we have an actual math genius that completed the highest level of college calculus at 16), but one of the smarter people, but with my ECs/GPA/rank people assume I will apply to an ivy or something. Basically I’m like haha no, I am rather average for top tier schools and horrible at standardized testing (though I am still planning to apply to top LACs).

@Beaver I agree 100%

When I come on here, I don’t really pay any attention to no one else. I was raised to focus on my work and not others. The thing I don’t like is when people on here just broadcast themselves and constantly say what their GPA is, or make dumb excuses about how they didn’t get a certain score on a test or a grade in the class.

At this point, I’m not going to go crazy over admission to my top choice. Sure I’d love to go, but if I don’t get in I’m not going off the deep end.

And the amount of APs on this site. I thought eleven was a fair amount. Lol wrong. Don’t even get me started on the w GPAs…
When my acquaintance got into Harvard with a 4.8 w (at least), I had to explain to my mom how, with my w GPA, I won’t be able to do the same (gap year student, btw). She. Will. Not. Listen. Ditto with my friends.

^ 11 AP classes is pretty extreme if you ask me.

The people that think they’re in the lesser half of this site re usually wrong.

Oh yea, 11 APs is nothing.

Exactly what happen to me. People tell me “Wow you’re smart.” “(my name)?, he’s like smart.”

Then I come on here and I’m like… “oh come on!” The good thing is few people here is any competition for me to get into Purdue and most are paranoid about getting into Ivy League and MIT and Chicago and the likes.

@CSI

Really? By the time I graduate, I would only have 4 AP classes under my belt.

Considering the Harvard admit took fifteen out of like, twenty-three, eleven really isn’t much.
Comparing myself to others has always been a weak point with me. CC makes it worse. And yet…I keep coming back, lol.

@CSI and Fantasy:
5 here.

4/5. My school offers 6-8, depending on interest (which has been getting lower and lower because of the increasing amount of ghetto).

I absolutely agree!
I thought that getting into college would be a breeze (especially since I go to a school that’s ranked the lowest in LA County) until I came to CC. It kinda shatters my hope of getting into UCLA or USC especially since I am going to compete with 4.0 2200+ SAT score, president of key club, captain of the soccer team… While I’m struggling with maintaining my GPA, balancing
volunteering hours, and stressing

I’ll get in 10/11 (hehe screw AP art), but yeah 10 is nothing by comparison, I read this other thread where a girl took 18 in ONE year. keep in mind though, APs aren’t everything.

Hah I think some people lie, though

Sent from my LG-VM696 using CC

In a year? Self studying many, I assume.
This kid in my graduating class took 17. He ended up at a state college (very good one, though).

My whole family thinks that I am a genius. Trust me, I have nothing “outstanding” at all…especially compared to some people on CC who are on the brink of finding a cure for cancer.

The only main thing that bothers me is that my family doesn’t understand everything that it takes to get into a good college. To them, a 1700 on the SAT is some Stephen Hawking/Bill Gates stuff.

Anyways, I’m glad I’m not the only person who feels like this!

I was completely unaware of the uber-competitive students I was up against until I went to a “nerd camp” program at Northwestern last year. Being from a public high school in the midwest, seeing the East Coast boarding school kids who were winning regional chess tournaments and acing their SAT’s really freaked me out…

Next year, when I went over my transcript with my GC he pointed to my 2030 SAT and exclaimed “don’t worry about college, you can get into anywhere you want with that score!”

If only he knew the type of students I had met at nerd camp…

My friend thinks that her brother (who is a senior) could get into Harvard if he wanted to. He has somewhere around a 3.9 GPA, a NHS member, NMS, and he’s in a couple of clubs. If only she knew about CC…

My school’s kind of funny. All the counselors are like, “You can get into anywhere you want!”
Then they rejected me from NHS.

Marie96, my parents are like yours. I have All A’s and 1 B but my dad thinks I’m bound to go to UCLA LOL. They have no idea how much competition there is. I swear like 95% of ccers have 4.0 GPA and 2100+ SAT

Have a nice day

From my experience, there are two types of oblivious people when it comes to elite college admissions:

The person who thinks that the only people that can possibly go to Ivy League schools are rich, connected Northeast elites

The person who thinks you will definitely get into Harvard with straight A’s and a 2000 SAT
