I’ve told maybe two people about this website, and usually the response is, “But everyone lies on the Internet!”
Which is very true. But if you’re into lying on the Internet, why would you do it here?

Ahhh story of my life. But the way I see it is this. Half of the people on CC are exaggerating and the other half are genuinely telling the truth. It helps me worry less about it. LOL

I personally think too many people make up their scores and GPAs on here. In some topics I been in I so clearly shown my low PSAT score (not really even low at all, it was a good score being above the average/ it is low by CC standards), and someone got comfortable to reveil their “low-ish” scores because he/she felt like CCers would attack for the low scores. Right now it seem like about 90% of CCer are one of the 2200+ scores, 3.8+ GPA. This I truly doubt because the other people have been silenced by the astonding high scores.

Perhaps on of the most interesting thing I came upon was after the Oct SAT scores came out and some people were blowing their whistle saying they had been scored wrongly and claim that CC gave them “this” scores. CC doesn’t have the answer to every problems. The whole thread itself proved that CC is unreliable in finding correct answers for SAT/ACT considering that these answer are based on a collective of memory and by forceful opinions trying to prove why ‘A’ and not ‘C’ is correct.

People on CC can definitely make up their scores-- only take it for what its worth. I don’t really compare myself to other CCers, if you want to look at your competition, look at ACTUAL data put out by universities about their previous class.

I feel like for the most part people are honest on the forums, although they probably embellish. Like they might say they have a 4.0, but it could be weighted, and most extracurricular activities can be made to sound better than they are.
And even if someone on here makes up their scores, there are still plenty of real-life kids who actually have those scores.
But this website is self-selecting. I found it when I Googled something about college admissions. People with “lower” scores may not want to post them, and people with actual low scores generally aren’t interested in bragging about their academic prowess on the Internet. (Although I’ve seen extremely intelligent people with good grades get low test scores, for whatever reason, so that’s not always true either.)
I kind of wish colleges would be more specific about who gets in. I know the process is supposed to be holistic, but I wish they’d say what extracurriculars people did, how many AP tests they took, stuff like that. College websites make it look easier to get in than it really is. Of course, that would just make the applicants more neurotic and less authentic.

In my opinion, most people tell the truth about their grades on here. But what some you guys don’t realize is that a lot of these people go to bad schools where they’re constantly regarded as “genius”. That’s why people on here who get all A’s but mediocre SATs claim to be “bad test takers”. They’re not really bad test takers- they just don’t know as much as the people who go to good schools. Also, many people say that they have all A’s when really their grading scale just makes it easy to get A’s. some people’s schools have an 89 as an A, when at my school it’s a B+. Also, about the weighted GPA thing, many schools on here give a 5.0 for an honors A and 6.0 for an AP A, while at my school it’s 4.3 for honors and 4.7 for AP. So you can see how schools inflate grades and sometimes are just not good schools- and that’s how some people on here make themselves sound super smart.

Yeah… Before this site, I used to think I was really smart. Eek! But you all motivate me to do better!

Yea it’s really is the school that profoundly affects your SAT scores.

However I think CC have a sort of do more influence. I’m glad I’m taking 3-4 AP this year because my dream college require a rigorous coursework during senior year.

My school only has 2 AP classes and no one has ever gotten above a 3 on an AP exam in my school. I hope I do well on both of them (I am taking both this year). I got a 2190 SAT and I am retaking because CC chance threads make me depressed about my chances. I have sucky, mediocre ECs and CC makes me feel like a ■■■■■■.

^ Your username scares me

I know what you feel like. My family thinks I will make it to MIT or something. Don’t know how I will face them when my decisions come out in March. My 2180 is one of the highest SAT scores in my high school, but looking at the other members of CC, I feel quite stupid!

Moreover, college admissions are getting tougher each year. Hope I make it to GATech or UIUC.

When I got a 2150 on the SAT, everyone was like “oh my God!”
And then on CC everyone is like “that isn’t a high SAT score at all.”

So now I’m retaking it and aiming for a 2250. And the people at my school are like “Are you nuts? You’re wasting your time.”

You know whats even worse. I asked my dad if I could volunteer at our hospital because it would look good on a college app and because I want to be a doctor and he said no. I wanted to get a summer job at the library (I love to read and it would be the only job that I probably like) and he said no. He wont let me go anywhere for an internship or camp during the summer because he “does not want to waste any money on silly, useless things.” He is Asian and thinks that the SAT and GPA are the main factors in college admissions and no matter how much I try to convince him he wont listen. He thinks that if I get a 4.0 and a 2350+ on the SAT, then I will get into MIT. I hate him. Sorry for ranting :)

Kypdurron: I get that a lot but I could not think of anything else
:)

Since when do you need to waste money to do those kinds of things? Volunteering doesn’t cost money. Getting a part-time job at McDonald’s like normal people doesn’t cost money.

I hate it when people say, oh of course you will get into any college because you have good grades and you’re such a good volunteer… Like I’m already under enough pressure. Please lower your expectations just a bit.

Yeah, I feel like my parents will be massively disappointed in me if I don’t get into the Ivies. But they have absolutely no understanding of how selective they are.

^Hate that.
