YoungArts 2014

someone just tweeted that they were a youngarts winner again this year. I think the HM and Merit emails are starting to come out.

^I asked her if she received an email and apparently she received a packet in the mail.

What is so weird is I looked up winners (merit, finalists, HM) from last year and there was only one winner in the MT (or as stated Theatre and Voice) catagory and it was a HM from Alaska- We should have done research and have my D apply for Theatre instead! The odds of that are crazy! Perhaps I am wrong, but that is what I see when looking at last years list. Anyways, good luck to all!!

@ForeverFish: When did your friend received a packet in the mail?

She isn’t my friend; I saw her tweet and asked her how she found out she was a winner.

Btw, someone else on Twitter has also announced that he is a winner in filmmaking.

Looks like both of the Twitter winners live in Florida. I expect their mail came before anyone else’s, but the rest of us should hear early this coming week.

^Yep, both are from Miami. It’ll be at least a few more days for the rest of us. I remember when I applied to a writing program in Iowa, though, that it only took 2-3 days for the acceptance letter to arrive.

@dreamatinydream No, all the musical and spoken theater finalists were grouped under “THEATER” in that winners list for 2013, just like poetry and novelist winners are grouped under “WRITING”-- the “Theater & Voice” HM winner from AK means she won HM in the Theater category and the Voice category. Good luck everyone!

That would make more sence, but- You are only allowed to apply under one catagory if you are applying for theatre- Either Theatre or Musical theatre (aka MT) So, she could not win under theatre And Voice- (because if applying to theatre, you cannot apply to any other catagory in YA) So, she must have won for MT in the theatre catadgory and if that is true, there is only 1 MT winner? Im so confused!

You can apply to as many programs as you’d like. If you are a finalist in more than one, you have to choose which one you are going to spend the week doing at Youngarts week. Voice is a different category than Theater.

If you applied under theatre, you were ONLY allowed to pick between spoken and Musical theatre, there was a special thing you had to sign to aknowledge that you agreed. But you could apply to all the other catagories if it were not Theatre

Exactly, you had to choose between Musical and Spoken theater, but you could, for example, apply to Musical Theater and Popular Voice, since “Voice” is an entirely different category from “Theater,” like Photography or Visual Arts. There were numerous Musical Theater winners last year, I promise-- all grouped under the “THEATER” category in that awards list you’re referring to.

emeraldEvi…Exactly!

OMG THANK YOU so much for making that clear!!! :)

I live in North Carolina. Hoping for something in the mail this week? Maybe a call? Hoping for something :/

@pursuinglondon: I think everyone will be receiving something this upcoming week, be it an award or a rejection. Keep checking your mailbox for the next few days. :)

Do you think they will mail rejection letters? Or would they reserve those to email only? Good luck to you all.

@ReincarnatedPoet I hope they send rejection letters. I’d rather find out I didn’t get it than continue to hope and not know until December :/

Can confirm that they mail rejection letters – my friend received one last year.

Received Voice “honorable mention” just now - I live in Texas.
