YoungArts Question

So far, my school has five Youngarts finalists. Four for Creative Writing (including myself) and one for Spoken Theatre. Congratulations to typewriter and jellyllama!

As for voice, I know nothing. My roommate is vocalist and she hasn’t heard anything from Youngarts or from her vocalist classmates.

I know of a vocalist who heard!

Looks like all the finalists got notified! congrats!

I don’t think that ALL of the finalists have been called yet. The friendly people at YoungArts said that calls will keep being made up until next week.

well i called today and they said any calls not made yesterday would be made today…

Hmm…that’s odd that they would give different answers. Oh well, I would assume they are VERY busy right about now! :-)

Hmm. Well then I dont know. Did any of you call late today? Like very recently?

Did anyone hear for cinematic arts?

I know of two dancers in my school who are finalists

so

have all finalists been notified?

aaaand

when will honorable mention/merit awards be announced?

If (for some crazy reason) a finalist says they cannot go to the week in Miami, does YA call the next applicant on the list or does that slot remain unfilled?

If finalists do not confirm their attendance by November 30th or do not send in all the required forms by December 5th, then that finalist has forfeited his/her spot to an alternate. I’m sure they will contact the alternate ASAP to make the proper arrangements.

And: Well, last year, merit winners and honorable mention winners were put online on December 6th. So check the YoungArts website around that time.

Just curious, which award gets the bigger monetary prize, honorable mention or merit?

Honorable Mention is $250 and Merit is $100.

Congrats to all the finalists  I look forward to seeing your work on the YoungArts site. If you remember, write a post after YoungArts Week in January and let us all know who you worked with and what was your favorite part.

A tip for the Finalists; when they ask on the forms if you want to receive future e-mails from YoungArts say… YES!!!

D missed an opportunity to be sent to Germany to be on HBO MasterClass with Bobby McFerrin because we failed to check that box last year, and it was no easy feat for her to get added back to the mailing list after the fact. ;-D

Called YoungArts this morning (Tues 11/29). YoungArts said they would be finished calling finalists by Christmas. Asked if she could tell me if I was a finalist and she said no. She said sorry–it is a very long process in notifying finalists.

Perhaps better to not have called, LOL.

Thank God. I applied for art and writing…I grow weary of this waiting game. xD No one in my art class got a call yet, which is unusual b/c I got to a performing and visual arts high school.

Went through old YoungArts posts back to 2008 and it seems the vast majority of finalists are notified the days just before Thanksgiving and by Dec 1 it is finished. If prospective finalists cannot participate in YoungArts in Miami then a HM moves up to finalist position. The ‘by Christmas’ date I was given seems to allow the HM & M winners to receive their notices by snail mail.

Frankly, YoungArts should just post all results up at one time for all Finalists, HM & M winners. Give the Finalists a week or two to accept or not accept the award and then move other participants accordingly. Why drag the whole process into weeks, almost a month, of gut wrenching agony?
Signed, Disappointed I won’t be going to Miami but will keep deluding myself till the snail rejection letter arrives

I’m sorry archs4 -waiting is the nature of the beast. Take hope from an earlier post that said that people who were not finalists in years past went on to some terrific schools.
All this stressful waiting, I’m afraid, is good practice for the career you hope for!
