Congrats!

:)

Awesome, gstudent99! My son is there this week, as well, in all the snow! He will be happy to know the group is active at Bama!

TexasMomAlso Dd doesn’t know if she should sign up for Alabama action, what are the pros? We are also from Texas. Congrats to your son also!

CLBamaMom, I have heard great thing about Alabama Action. I am not sure my son will be able to participate since he may have a conflict with training (swimming). however I have hope that if he really wants to there may be a way. I do not know to much about the program yet, hope to learn more during Bama Bound in the spring.

CLBamaMom, be sure to search this forum for lots of posts/comments regarding Alabama Action and Outdoor Action. My son did AA before his freshman year. Th ebenfits were that he was able to move in to his dorm ahead of the huge rush, he made friends before the school year started and was able to get comfortable with the campus before it became crowded. He was definitely out of his comfort zone with the physical aspect of the community service, but that was a good experience for him! He got his first blister on his hand from hard work and actually worked up a sweat from using a shovel to remove tree roots! My daughter will be participating in either AA or OA this upcoming summer… She is really looking forward to it. :)

TexasMomAlso, unfortunately you can’t wait to hear about AA/OA at Bama Bound. Registration will open up before then, and it will fill up before Bama Bound. Sorry… Try searching for information on Bama’s CC forum. I will try to post links in a bit.

Alrighty…Hope I have done this correctly. If so, this should be a good start for you. :)

Maryjay60. We are from Chicago and my daughter spent 4 years of High School waiting for trains in frigid cold so the Polar Vortex influenced weather expected for DC tomorrow shouldn’t be a problem for her. Hopefully the southerners in the group will persevere.

ProudBamaMama: Thanks for posting those links re: AA and OA. My DS is very interested in participating, so I had been thinking we needed to start finding out some more info…

@gstudent99 I grew up in Chicago and my son would be fine IF THE KID HAD BROUGHT A COAT! On Tuesday, in all the snow, he had on a cardigan! He did bring gloves, a hat and scarf and swears he had layers for today’s rally. He says he is always plenty warm. Hmmmmm.
In fact, that is the one one strike against Bama and why he didn’t check it out first. He wanted to go somewhere cold and snowy for college and would look at no school south of home. Thankfully, he made an exception for UA!

^^^My son was the same. He has gotten to experience cold and snow at Bama, and tornadoes and rain. We did have to go to KMart when bringing him back from Thanksgiving to get him a heavier jacket than the light windbreaker he brought from home. When it gets a lot colder, he’ll wear his winter parka. Son is heading to grad school, hopefully, in the fall to a much colder climate, so we’re probably going to have to up the wardrobe!
